This is my 2016 autocross thread - Atlanta region SCCA, SMF class
I'm making this thread to keep track of my trials and tribulations for the season.
This is my 2016 autocross thread - Atlanta region SCCA, SMF class
I currently have two cars that I run in this class:
91 civic Si - swapped b18c5 (jrsc @ 10 psi) - primary
(This car has an ATS gearset / final drive / LSD:
Gear Ratio Final MPH @ 9200 RPM @ 80 MPH
1 - 3.077 - 15.18 - 42.2 - 17423
2 - 2.105 - 10.35 - 62.0 - 11879
3 - 1.652 - 8.13 - 78.9 - 9334
4 - 1.308 - 6.46 - 99.3 - 7410
5 - 1.033 - 5.08 - 126.3 - 5827
Axle ratio - 4.929
Tire diameter - 23.44" (I did this with a 205/50/15 tire as an example.)
88 civic std - swapped b18a1 (NA) - secondary
The eventual goal is to just have one dedicated autox car, that being the lighter 88 chassis - but of course that's subject to change; $ and time being the contributing factors.

Re: This is my 2016 autocross thread - Atlanta region SCCA, SMF class
Quick list of things I need to get done on the black car before the next event:
Retune with hondata S300. (Currently on Crome pro.)
Weld up slip fit test pipe that gets knocked loose on speed bumps.
Mtf change.
New front pads - the hps on there currently just don't bite hard enough for the Hoosiers IMO.
I'll try hp+ next.
Future fixes:
Install the heat exchanger and pump for air to water cooler.
Cut out front bumper.
Remove AC components.
Install DA front knuckles with karcepts hubs and rsx axles.

when you take out the ac components.
some people leave the ac compressor on the firewall.
ac delete tube, you can remove that and still at least have heat.
Connects to the blower motor and the heater box (behind the dash)
I'll look tomorrow, I'm going to pull a part

Re: This is my 2016 autocross thread - Atlanta region SCCA, SMF class
Yesterday was points #1.
In the black car, hondata s300 wasn't recording wideband o2 in my datalogs, so I couldn't street tune it.
I decided to play it safe and just drive the grey car for this event.
Did I mention it's totally not prepped?
It has lowering springs, no swaybars, a hankook / Toyo tire combo, and full interior.
Also, the ill-fitting temporary radiator and 30lb battery both need to be replaced!
It's open diff too! Lol. And second gear is shot due to the abuse it took when I broke the clutch pedal bracket recently.
I do have a spare 4.9 final drive tranny with helical LSD that I could swap in...
Anyway, here are my times:
Run 1: 46.695
Run 2: 45.945
Run 3: 45.451
Run 4: 44.971 DNF
Yes, I carried too much speed and flubbed the last cone at the end of the slalom before the finish gate and dnf'd.
Oh well.
It seems I'm in first place though due to lack of competition!

I am not sure in the difference in the CRX and the EG civic/del sol setup, But we took the A/C out of our Del Sol racecar, just removed the heater box, removed the A/C evaporator. That made a hole in the box about 2 inchs wide and 7 inchs tall, just covered the hole up with some hard plastic and sealer and self tapping screews. Box was sealed up and worked great for heat still.

Re: This is my 2016 autocross thread - Atlanta region SCCA, SMF class
the ac core in the heater box doesnt weigh squat, I dont really see the point in going through so much trouble to remove it, especially when the adapter duct just adds most of that weight back to it. all the engine bay stuff is where the weight is.
SM and SMF class, I thought you can motor swap OR boost an n/a motor, but not both? did they change the rules in the last couple years?
I usually run SM because either a) theres few or none running SMF for me to actually compete against, and b) when I do have competition, its not much for competition haha.
for pads, I run HPS in the rear, and HP+ in the front, its the perfect combo for my car, typically running hoosier a6's

Sm and SMF can have swap AND boost.
There are weight penalties for each.
The 1st and 2nd place finisher last year at nationals was a crx hf k20 with a blower.
3rd place was an allmotor k24 eg.

Street Modified
D. Drivetrain and related components (e.g., induction, ignition, fuel systems) are unrestricted except for the following limitations:
1. Engine block (or housings of rotary engines) must be a production unit manufactured and badged the same as the original standard or option- al engine for that model. Badges that exist as marketing aliases for the manufacturer will be recognized as equivalents. Swaps involving makes related only at a corporate level are not recognized as equivalents. Mod- els produced as a joint venture between manufacturers may utilize any engine from any partner in the joint venture, provided that an engine from the desired manufacturer was a factory option in that particular model (e.g., Eagle Talon, available originally with either a Mitsubishi or Chrysler engine, may use any motor from Chrysler or Mitsubishi). This allows engine blocks manufactured as production units for sale in other countries such as Japan or Germany.

Re: This is my 2016 autocross thread - Atlanta region SCCA, SMF class
that doesnt make sense though?
and
my interpretation of that is you can not swap the engine for something that was not a factory option in your actual chassis. IE: b18c in a civic is not allowed because the engine is for an integra. but h22 is allowed in my 1990 prelude, because it originally came in newer preludes, and the rule states "model" but not "year" or "chassis code".
but then it says
makes no sense to me, because the wording keeps specifying "must be from the same MODEL anywhere in the world"
Engine block must be a production unit manufactured and badged the same as the original standard or optional engine for that model
Models produced as a joint venture between manufacturers may utilize any engine from any partner in the joint venture, provided that an engine from the desired manufacturer was a factory option in that particular model

Re: This is my 2016 autocross thread - Atlanta region SCCA, SMF class
I know the wording is confusing.
But clarification from the SCCA allows any honda / Acura motor into any honda / Acura chassis.
I can't use my DART block though...
