Max spring rate for tokico 5 ways? Also F/R spring rate question, stiffer in back?
Hey guys, I posted this in the suspension forum but just I suspected they are totally useless and I recieved no answer, I ordered the underground racing coilover sleeves, they are 336 and 440 spring rates, front to rear respectively. Is this a safe spring rate to run on tokicos? They are the 5 way adjustables and I can't imagine it would kill them but I am just making sure.
The second question is that they list the coilovers with the 440's in front and 336's in the back, when I asked them why they said because thats where the weight is from the engine, to me that doesn't make sense, would stiffer springs in the back make the car rotate better and help with udersteer, since as of now the car understeers like a bitch? My alignment settings are whacky but those are getting fixed once the springs go on along with the camber kit. Thanks a lot guys, This is by far the most helpful forum on here, and by far the most knowledgable people.

P.S. This is going to be for saily driving/ sutocross weekends, and it will be lowerd about 1.5 inches from stock, thanks a lot guys!

I run Illuminas on my H4 car w/ 450# fronts and 600# rears. The Illuminas seem to do ok with the 600# rate. I don't know about the other Tokiko shocks though.
I feel like I should preface this section with "I'm no expert, but ..."
Conventional wisdom says that to get the car to rotate, you're definitely going to want a higher rate than 336# in the rear. Leave the 440's in front and up the rears to as high as will be comfortable on the street (ride quality will probably go to **** the more you increase rear spring rate). Then get a big rear sway bar and dial in the alignment as necessary to get it to rotate.

I had a set with 750;s on the rear and the result was acceptable. I think at that level its about the maximum spring the shock can handle. As for durability, I managed 12 races on 1 set and no signs of leakage or anything else. I later sold the car but believe the shocks to be perfectly fine then and have not heard otherwise thusfar!

Yeah I don't know what the max spring rate is on the Illuminas, but I'm running a similar set up 400f/600r with a Suspension Tech. bar.

well the springs can be switched fron to back since they are the same length for this car so thats what i was planning on doing, if i wanted to get some stiffer rears then i would be able to easily, however for the sake of street comfort i was going to stick with the 440's for now.
Again this forum is the greatest, over a week i got no responses in uspension and within an hour I get three of them here, thanks a ton guys, you are infinitely helpful!

I'm currently running 450 front and 550 rear with Illuminas. Anything above 3 or 4 on the setting seems to do fine.

Do what makes you feel comfortable. 400lb lighter cars on hoosiers were not fairing well aginst my 4 door on ra-1's even on more conservitive lines this last weekend and I was on 300f 200r's which know it all's tell me suck. - lol

yeah if this turns out to be too stiff I might grab some 250Lbs and put the 330's in the rear

and i 0wnz0r3d all the csp miata's at the last miata event i went to. on street tires. what's your point? maybe that your suspension sucks but your competition sucked even worse?
i'm with RJ. get some koni's and then run whatever spring rate you desire. the tokico's aren't even in the same league as the koni's.
