Re: LSD Question - Wavetrac VS Mfactory
Well I believe the wavetrac is a helical style and pretty sure Mfactory makes a helical as well as a clutch type. So if performance is what you're looking for the clutch type will provide better performance versus the helical.
Con to the clutch type is the clutch packs eventually do need to be rebuilt versus the helical being pretty maintenance free.

An other important thing to know is that clutch type need an oil that is not friendly with the syncros witch leed them to wear faster... To be honest I have own a clutch type and I have puts tons of track on it and never need a rebuilt... but I had to take my tranny apart to change symcros...

Re: LSD Question - Wavetrac VS Mfactory
You will want to look at this link, and see how the Wavetrac works. Most differentials can't transfer power under zero-load to an opposite wheel. That's how the Wavetrac is different.
Wavetrac® Differential - A torque biasing differential with a difference
And you do not need any additive with the Wavetrac. And the composite plates, while wearable, are meant to take a lot of abuse. So not something you will likely have to mess with. Also, all Wavetracs come with a Lifetime/Transferable warranty.

Re: LSD Question - Wavetrac VS Mfactory
Wave Trac is a gimmick, and total junk.
MFactory, the jury is still out on the quality, however, helical differentials work REALLY well on a FWD, and are inherently the most reliable design by leaps and bounds. I would choose helical all day long.
Go with Quaife for a helical, or O.S. Giken for a clutch type LSD.
Or you can even just grab a factory helical out of a type r. What is the application?

*Sigh* Must I show EVERYONE this particular article as young people's version of "proof"?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited-slip_differential
No. They are NOT the same. I currently own Helical LSD (Quaife), Clutch (Cusco 1-way and Kaaz 1.5way) and a stock Torsen (OEM JDM Type R) it is NOT the same as Torsen..
Torsen only operates when the differential senses that the steering rack as turned (meaning that the wheels have been turned). The Clutch-type and Helical differentials do not.

Re: LSD Question - Wavetrac VS Mfactory
My friend. I'm trying to make this clear. I would not make these statements unless I know exactly what I'm talking about. You can create your argument around the Torsen name if you wish, but that does not counter the fact that what you're thinking is an OEM Helical LSD is, in fact, NOT..
The Torsen Helical you're referring to is the T-1 (Type A). There are 3 main types of Torsen differentials. The ITR does not use the T-1 (Type A), it uses a changed version of the T-2R in a transverse mounted transmission system. Only the T-1 is considered to be the Helical Design and that is the one NOT used in the Type R. The T-1 is used in rear and center differential applications. Not the Honda.
The T-2R is a parallel gear type that is set in such a way in which if one of the wheels is in the air (chicane turn) or in a straight line, it will act as though it is an Open-differential, which is NOT like the Type 1 that is a Helical gear type. This lack of torque split from the T-2R occurs especially in turbocharged applications that easily overpower its intended use. This is why they don't work well in turbo applications. We tell them to step their game up and don't bother with an OEM Torsen.
So, NO, they are not the same as the MFactory Helical or Wavetrac or Quaife.

Re: LSD Question - Wavetrac VS Mfactory
TheShodan. It's been a while hey, lol.
I haven't started that turbo build yet. Lots of other commitments. I have however, bought a 98 JDM ITR. Recently I changed the diff to a MFactory 1.5 way clutch type
LSD & put in a Fidanza lightened flywheel. Its totally changed the car, & I'm not necessarily sure for the better. The diff is noisy, lots of clucking, very jerky, the car
shudders in reverse, deceleration is also jerky and it feels at times that the lsd is being forced like its gripping, then suddenly lets go. I'm probably not explaining this
very well, but it isn't something easy to explain.
I'm not sure how much of this is attributed to the flywheel & how much to the LSD. Oil I'm using is Castrol Axle Z Limited Slip 90.

IMHO I think you need to change your trans fluid and see if that helps.

Re: LSD Question - Wavetrac VS Mfactory
I'm running the same diff in my gsr trans and dont have any of those issues. I dont have a fidanza flywheel, i'm running the competition clutch flywheel and was running Honda MTF with Torco F modifier. the only time it makes a sound is when i'm turning really tight in the paddock. its amazing under braking and throughout the corner.

Get the new Torco fluid from Synchrotech. It is specifically designed to work with the MFactory parts.
WAAAAAAYYY better than honda MTF if you don't want to run the Torco RTF

Re: LSD Question - Wavetrac VS Mfactory
So if I were to order Torco oil, what exactly would I order? This includes oil, additives if necessary, whatever.

Re: LSD Question - Wavetrac VS Mfactory
Synchrotech ordered a special blend from Torco that is supposed to be the best complete solution.
I would email the guys over there. Synchrotech Contact Us
Or even call them, they have been super helpful anytime I called for tech questions.
They open 730am Pacific standard time (5:30pm Durban time)
Best of luck!

Hey Junaid K!!! Yessir..! It has been a while. Great to see on here again!
It definitely sounds like you have wrong fluid in there. They get a bit more chattery when you don't use a good friction modifier on the Clutch Type LSDs like your 1.5 way. For my Cusco and Kaaz 1-way and 1.5 way I used the 90NA with a redline friction modifyer at first, then stopped mixing and went to Special Project's GEAR X oil. It was much much nicer and didn't have to add any modifiers to it. I've never used Torco Products, so I couldn't tell you, as I don't use MFactory LSDs (Just never had a reason to for myself, doesn't mean I don't recommend them for someone else).

I can get Redline. It's actually what I use in my Evo diff and TC. Heavyweight shockproof. Maybe it's a good option?

Re: LSD Question - Wavetrac VS Mfactory
So, it seems Synchrotech is prepared to sell their MFacrory diffs to anybody, but isn't prepared to ship oil out of the US..
Any suggestions as to what else I can use?
Red Line as below?

Re: LSD Question - Wavetrac VS Mfactory
I use synchromesh in my type r. Works great.
Redline 75w90 iis good to.
There are no friction surfaces in a helical LSD, special fluid is not crucial.
