Kazz Experiences?
 

Just baught a Kazz LSD for my b18c and was wondering if anybody here has used it before and their opinion on it. Thanks in advance!:thumbup:

Kazz are an ok-middle of the road diff. The wear rate on the plate tabs and housing grooves needs to be watched. I don't lke 1.5 way personally, but they are a good diff overall. Just keep up with the fluid changes and maybe add a magnetic drain plug to help keep the debris down.

i like mine. i haven't had much wear issues but my car rarely runs more than a few days. when we took the trans appart to refresh the synchros there was a nice coating of clutchplate residue all over the place. so changing the fluid is definitely important. wither kaaz fluid of the motul stuff kiwi sells (forgive me, i don't remember the new stuff but if you call special projects, kiwi will fix ya up)

Been happy with mine so far. 16k+ miles on a low mileage daily driver and 8-10 HPDE's. I've changed the fluid 3x's with KAAZ's fluid. So far so good with zero problems. I do have a magnetic plug on the tranny with minimal deposits at every change. I will be pulling the tranny within the next month for a rebuild because of synchro wear. I'll do a further inspection and should anything be seen I'll post, but I'm not expecting much.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. 8-10 HPDEs a year, about 25K in mine with about 3 fluid changes.. Its about time for one now, actually. I love it. smooth as glass..

It is a used diff and I got a killer deal on it from a buddy of mine! Anybody mind if i post pics of it so you guys with experience with diffs can look at its condition? This is my first LSD. I have no expierences with these.

And I know this is not a tech section but for you guys that have experience, when installing the diff, do I need to measure backlash and all that good stuff or is it just a direct drop in?

If everything is built correctly and you are using the original ring gear you should be good to go. But being that it's a used part going into an old transmission, it is always prudent to check your clearances now. The extra time spent here is worth the peace of mind and sure beats r&r and tear down later!

post a pic of one of the plate surfaces and tabs, maybe of the housing slots for the tabs as well, Ill give you my opinion on the wear.

As for backlash, it should be checked always, but assuming you are using the same ring gear and diff spacers you should be fairly close.

I love my Kaaz.
Since buying the ITR tranny that it came in, it's been trouble free and works like magic!
big difference from bone stock. The power stays down to those wheels where it belongs.


Definately want to keep the oil changed at the correct intervals though.

I love the KAAZ in my car. I have one in both my boxes. In your opinion, what is a better diff?

I have been using the KAAZ fluid because I don't want to change the lockup characteristics, since they are awesome, but have had to change to fluid every 2-3 weekends.

I don't think that I will need to change the fluid that regularly being that I wont be driving my car hard everywhere I go.

I hated mine. Both of them. Nothing but problems with the passenger side axle popping out.

Whoa whoa, The axle issue I confirmed that it was DUE TO THE reman axles being just shy of a 1 INCH shorter than a factory axle!!! So if you run remans you better make sure they are with in factory spec with ANY plate type diff.

I really liked the performance of my kaaz diff. If you look around you will see the design is pretty much the same as the Carbonetics, Cusco, and even Spoon.

***My First Go Round, used Kaaz LSD purchased off of my friend***
I tried 4 different axles. 3 different brands:
2 different Autozone axles
1 Hasport axle
1 used oem Acura axle

None of them worked.

I tried stiffer motor mounts on the recommendation of Keith G from Hasport to minimize engine and trans movement. Didn't work.

I tried brand new C-clips. Didn't work.

I tried brand new C-clips and tried artificially spreading them out. Didn't work.

I tried switching from the Kaaz oil to the Motul Competition FF oil. Didn't work.

I pulled the trans and had the plates and worm gears inspected by a fellow road racer who has rebuilt 300+ B-series transmisison (he did it as a part time job for 2-3 years).

I had the diff clearences within the case checked and rechecked to minimize lateral play.

Now keep in mind that pretty much every bullet point above represents one day or one event that I attended and DNF'd thanks to my awesome Kaaz. Some days it was after the first session....some days it wasn't till the last session, but ever since the 2nd event it was in my car I was not able to go a full weekend without having to limp the car home or towed home.

Finally got sick washing an entire season (read: year) down the tubes and pulled the diff and went back to an ITR LSD. Overnight the axle problems stop.

Fast forward to last fall of 10, roughly 2 years after that first debacle. Like a bad ex-GF who's really hot and really fun 1 weekend a month (which is all you remember) and the rest of the time she's a raging bitch on wheels (which most guys will usually forget).....I got bored with the ITR diff and wanted to feel the car snake through the corners again like it did with the Kaaz. So I bought another one, this time brand new. To eliminate yet another variable I had this one installed by a friend (different guy than the first time) who is a tech at Honda with all certifications, and very familiar with rebuilding B-series transmisison on his own car and his friends' cars.

First event was a local event in Oct. Then off to Buttonwillow for Super Lap. Ran the rest of the year and into 2011 without any problems. Then in July of last year at Cal Speedway, in the last session of FFB3 the axle pops out. I'm thinking no biggie probably just a fluke. Slam it back in. Go out the next day for TT. boom, pops out again on my first hot lap. Put it back in again knowing full well what would happen. Got 2 laps out of in the 2nd session, same result. Pissed off I put the axle back, in the pouring rain, no garage spot, load the car up on the trailer and drive home scheming of what I'm going to do this piece of sh*t when I get back. Pulled the trans and low and behold the nose on the LSD case (facing the passengerside) had sheared completely off the case with the roller bearing still stuck on it. Nice. :thumbsdown:

OP asked for our experience. And that's mine. Your results may vary.
I know lots of other guys like their kaaz lsds. I know a few other guys that think they're garbage too.

Wow you sir had some horrid luck! I know how it feels for sure, My whole 11' race season was basically like that but from everything not just one thing lol. Btw the ex gf made me LOL hard!

BlueTeg- did you check your lca bushings? I didn't see that in your list and that was my problem.
