Jackie Stewart documentary on Speed
Did anyone catch this tonight? I thought it was quite amazing. I watched it with my mom and dad (both big race fans) and I could tell it was really bringing them back. I even noticed my dad tear up a little when they were talking about Francois Cervet's tragic death at Watkins Glen in 1973. For you left coasters, I highly recommend you watch this, it's good stuff.
And a neat little bit of info my dad told me to end with. My dad went to the 1966 Monaco GP (has some great pictures, I may try and scan them in sometime, along with his Watkins Glen pics and old Can-Am pics) and on the flight back to America he was on the plane with Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill. Pretty neat

I saw the show and it was quite good. The title shouldn't have been "Jackie Stewart: The Flying Scot" though as whe was more know as the "wee Scot" since Jim Clark was a super racer Scotsman and of a bit larger physical build.
I hope they will do more such programs on other drivers but I doubt it. I see in the credits that it was directed and produced by Mark Stewart (his #2 son) by MSP (Mark Stewart Productions). Sounds like Mark is getting in the business and why not do a nice story on Dad and get the whole family and freinds to help out.

I caught a little bit of it, but I'll tape the replay at 10 pm PST/1 am EST. I'm not too familiar with that era of racing at all, but what I saw was still great stuff.

Watching the rebroadcast on the West Coast right now!
Although the era in which he drove in F1 was before my time, he is still one of my favorite drivers of all time.

its wierd how back then, the lack of safety and technology made those drivers legends. (moment of silence for those drivers lost) Peter Revson, Swede Savage, and Gilles Villenuve

Re: (snowboarderguy44)
I missed the show but vividly remember reading R&T during my racing formative years of '75-77. The F1 coverage was a month or so late in that long-lead publication but there for a while, there was a fatality every couple of races. It was a rough time in the auto racing business and I think we pretty much just believed that's how it had to be.
Very glad that we are past that.

The in-car footage was really good it "felt" a lot faster then anything they show today.

I can't believe from club racing he went to F1 testing, You surely can't do that anymore. Good Documentary, hopefully they can do some more of those. Continue showing the old Formula one races

Here's a picture of Team Tyrrell @ the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca this year.
Let me tell you.. nothing quite put the power of those cars in perspective as when I stood inches away from the Gilles Ferrari as the mechanic rev'd the engine during warm up. My knees were about to buckle.. and remained trembling for about 10 minutes after I walked away. pretty cool. (if there were audio to go along with the following pic, you wouldn't be able to hear yourself think!)

Re: Jackie Stewart documentary on Speed (Brian*Blue95M3)
excellent doc. it really showed the difference in people and racing back then.. opposed to current F1. I mean the cars were so much more demanding on the driver and the skill needed to get those fast times were just amazing !!!!

sir stewart is an amazing man, and his life is equally incredible.

Not just the fans...the flag man too. Seems like you'd have to be nuts to be standing on the start/finish line while cars fly past you.
I got a chance to watch the whole thing...it made me wish that I was born in that same time period. Life/society looked to be much healthier back then.

Re: Jackie Stewart documentary on Speed (bb6h22a)
did anyone else notice the difference in how much input the drivers made driving those 60's F1 cars vs current cars? Also note the huge difference in slip angles, it almost appears as if they are drifting (well, they are, but not the mAdd tyte l@@k at me stunna style drifting). Just some observations.
Sir Jackie Stewart also was pretty active in making the sport safer, which I think is uber-cool.

Tyres are too good now. It's not as fun watching them without the slipping.

Re: Jackie Stewart documentary on Speed (usuck)
Thanks for the heads up on the next airing... I saw most of it, but missed the beginning.
The fact that for most of Jackie's F-1 carreer Tyrrell was based out of an old, wooden garage just bowls me over.
I remember seeing some of the F1 footage a few years ago when Ken Tyrrell died. In both documentaries the footage is most excellent!
