Re: HPD B Spec Honda Fit
Affordable was mentioned in the article..
Simple math... Base model Fit 15K
Assuming they are not including an interior maybe a few thousand less.
Lets start building a cage.. to NASA SCCA spec.
Fire Spression unit
Seat and harness.
Tires and wheels.
I am assuming fit stock but what tire?
See the price going back up??
This wont be affordable to plunk down that kind of cash on a spec racer.
Unless they have a lease program, this caters to nobody who is a privateer.
We can build better faster HC cars with that kind of money.
RSX's would be more common place on the track than the EG/EK or DC chassis we see now.
Sounds interesting in theory but lets hear what the real cost will be before we start jumping up and down.
Its easy to build up a car with unlimited budget and resources, and say its a spec racer.
Im all ears waiting on what they are wanting to do.

Not working Charles... Quick search of autotrader bought back 7 pages of fits in a 300 mile radius from me ranging from 20K to 8500.
Start your build from there.
The car is still too new in the production run to be affordable.
2007-2010.
RSX's you can find for 6K or less now depending on age and mileage.
Lets just wait and see what kind of figures Honda is talking about.
Im skeptical on how they say this will be affordable etc...

Guess affordable is a relative term. Starting with a new(ish) car is going to be a bit pricey. Then if it becomes popular, that means "show room stock suspensions" and "show room stock" engines.

Well I'm gonna jump up and down.........I'm excited. Found a couple Fits already here in Utah $5,500 wrecked to $7,000 straight. My understanding is is similar to Spec Miata. Spec coilovers and exhaust allowed. Long block is all oem.

If you are lucky enough maybe you could put one together for less than $10-15k. I still got to finish my CRX and I am around $8,000 out of pocket but I think you can almost build a spec Honda Fit for the same or close?

Yikes!!! that white one must of been hit behind by a truck.
Where are you finding those cheap beat up fits?
5500 is very reasonable for a chassis.
Selling off the interior, air bags, dash panels, heater etc to make some money back.
That would get you half way to a cage.
Not looking so bad now.
The interview with the Mazda Rep was reassuring.
Keep it stock and simple ,and not let the rules get out of hand.
That takes the affordability away.
Thanks for posting that Charles my mind is now open to it

Re: HPD B Spec Honda Fit
Too bad there's not a way they could seal the engines. If it grows in popularity, it'll be an expensive ride to be towards the pointy end.
The other downside as a potential builder of one of these is if this doesn't work out, where do they race it? Not sure where else these cars could fit (no pun intended).
Still interesting.

Re: HPD B Spec Honda Fit
Saw the cars at pri. The Mazda 2 actually makes a pretty decent looking race car.
Best part that I see is that they're about the only late model race cars that still use reasonable sized tires (15's). Thats gotta count for something when figuring the cost of getting into one.

Not to familar with any of the class rules, but you guys think they are going to allow older models. Ie the 2009-2010 fits. To me that doesnt seem to likely. Wouldnt that kill the mazda2's chance since its only new. Just asking, like I said never really followed any series. Guess I'll have to pay attention for the rules.

Anyone know how this is gonna be run? Kinda late in the winter to tell everyone to build cars and get the series off the ground for 2011. Are they gonna provide cars and we have the option to rent?

It was actually a very fun car to drive. Easy to drive 8-9/10ths and run consistent lap times.
It was an honor to be a part of the HPD/THR team at this years 25hr event. They were a fantastic group of people that works so well together. They were extremely well organized and on top of everything! With the Fit, we didn't have a single penalty or mechanical issue the entire 25hr race! That's simply awesome.
I really look forward to working with them all again in the future!
