Harness bar for a del Sol.
So I've been contmeplating the idea of putting an harness bar in my del Sol. I believe the following pictures are of 'happycorepuppy' del Sol and hopefully he doesn't mind.
I plan on changing the mounting points slightly by using two bolts on either side of the bar on the pillar and using the stock seat belt location as one of the anchor points. The bar will be 2.000" x 0.120" mild steel as mandated by the SCCA for autocross roll bars.
Now my primary question is: Will I have any issues when doing autocross and HPDEs as far as safety and the mounting?
I only plan on using 5-point harness for autocrosses and HPDEs, so street use isn't a concern.
I know I had more questions, but it's late/early and I'm tired.

*if* you are planning doing HPDE's either
- get a custom rollbar built to mount your harnesses
- use the pillar bar as a camera mount during HPDE's
Do *not* use harnesses w/o proper rollover protection on track at high speeds.
And for autocross, all you really need is the lap belt portion of the harness.

Not sure I agree with this. The shoulder belt is really what holds you in place the most while autocrossing. I agree about the HPDE use though.

Re: Harness bar for a del Sol. (Brett@SoloRacer.com)
Thanks for the responses, guys. I would like to do the roll bar, but that's even more money which I can't justify on a street car. Hell, for what I'd be spending on the harnesses and the bar I could do another HPDE.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

The B-Pillar Bar that goes over the Middle of Del Sol, seems to hold up pretty well in Highway Rollover accidents in pictures that I have seen, The problem is the winshield collapses pretty far espically if the roof is not it, which is one of the reason's I do not take the roof out when I am on track.
Here are a few pics.
This one bothers me a littlle though, I would like to know what speed he was going when this happen.
The window came down pretty far on the above accident.

Re: (phantom_sol)
Ouch, I had no idea the roofline colapses that much in a rollover accident. Almost makes me want to put in a cage.
As far as making the bar, you basically just take a steel tube, weld on mounting brackets, and bolt it up. I would guess if there's any support, it's very minimal.
Thanks for the other responses, too.

Re: (Eee Pee)
Yeah, but I'm beginning to weigh the cost to benefit ratio. At the bare minimum, it's $200 for a 5-point and the bar. That would easily cover the hotel cost and some of the gas money for my hopeful 3-day HPDE at BeaveRun late August. And I don't have the money for a video camera nor do I know anyone with one along with a mount.
Maybe next season. My current seats and belts are "good enough" for the time being.
