Factory CR-Z Race Car Anybody!?
I was aimlessly wondering the SEMA floor today when I ran into this.

You better believe I'm gonna get some info on it tomorrow though.

Awww...I miss SEMA
after 7 straight years of going, I had to take a break for a few years. Hopefully next year.
Nice CR-Z, Lee N. of HPD mentioned this past summer how they were building a road race CR-Z. This was the first time I've seen it in pics.
What's more amazing is what they are planning for the new 2011 Civic
hint: 3 words....maybe... spec....series...?

more voltage/larger motor.
I don't believe increasing electic hp can ever be anymore than swapping parts. Nothing else you can do without burning something. Which means very expensive and specialized stuff.

Sorry ****, I should have.
If my memory serves me correct I thought the placard made mention of a boosted motor. Yesterday we were on a mission. Today is more relaxed. I'm going back for sure.

I don't think any of the race CRZs are going to utilize the electric aspect of the CRZ. Bisimoto uses the electric motor I believe but only because it's supposed to retain streetability/mpg; IIRC his car is turbocharged.

Re: Factory CR-Z Race Car Anybody!?
I dunno it kind of concerns me with something like that Charles.
First of all its a new car... Not cheap, a spec race car..
Parts and cages??? Still not cheap.
How would this grow a sport if its not inexpensive to purchase, especially if they are dealing with a 2011 model year.
Unless they were to lease? I dont know how it would work?
Anyone have any clues?
I think it would take the grass roots, and budget racing out of the equation right away.
The PM Garage would be more like the homeless garage, living downtown LA scouring the dumpsters at Dodger Stadium looking for thrown away hot dogs.
Then again who throws away a Dodger Dog?

Don't care for the CRZ but this one looks BA. Then again throw that amount of anything and it can look pretty good haha. And I can't wait to go to sema.

CRZ spec series is no longer on the table according to Lee N. at NASA nats.
How ever there seems to be a "city car series" that might make it, being pushed/researched by another auto-manufacture. The CRZ would fit into that series.

Re: Factory CR-Z Race Car Anybody!?
After discussing with Lee at SEMA it sounds like a lot is still in the air. Not sure the which direction they are going to go. ANYTHING they do for Honda Challenge would be awesome. Their involvement recently has DEFINITELY grown the series. I think it will continue to grow with more participation from them.
I love their HPD built Grand Am cars and if money was available would purchase one in a heartbeat!

Re: Factory CR-Z Race Car Anybody!?
Seriously, if this car had come out under another brand, the name would be laughed at for years to come. Because Honda did it, people just say "Oh, whatever, its just a Honda". It is an utterly useless car. It's just an uglier Fit with less usable space and extra weight in odd places. I am really amazed at how bad the production CRZ is now that it is rolling around.
...At least when BMW makes an ugly hybrid they give it 600ft-lbs of torque...
Seriously, could you imagine how Honda's development team pitched this car to a board?...
"Is it fast?"
"No, same speed as Fit, because it uses the same engine, only makes 13hp off the electric motor, and is 300lbs heavier."
"Oh, so it gets good mileage, then?"
"Uh, not really, about the same as the fit, since the electric motor is too small to be very useful."
"Hmmm... and it has good mileage?"
"Sort of, 4mpg more than the Fit, since its so heavy."
"Oh, my. So it has a lot more space inside so we can sell it to a larger market?"
"Um, no. Much less, actually. Half the passenger volume, really. But don't worry! We've made it extra ugly so it'll be even more questionable to actually buy one!"
"Oh, oh, oh. You didn't mention it was ugly! Send it to production, right away!"
