I'm not an expert but using the Honda challenge title for this will conflict with NASA 's Honda challenge I would think

Re: Extreme Speed Honda Challenge in the making - So. Cal tracks
I don't think it will conflict-
I doubt that NASA has a copyright on the word "Challenge" and it certainly doesn't own the word "HONDA"
So as long as the Words "Extreme Speed Honda Challenge" are used most right minded people will know which series is which.
Personally I doubt it will get much support- NASA Honda Challenge guys probably wont support it, H1 & H2 Don't fit the rules. And considering the rules for the new MotoIQ series are far more realistic, and geared around modern technology in Suspension, Aero, and Gearing, most other cars that I know of are being built with MotoIQ in mind. I know I am...

Id have to agree with Jeff... Your rules dont interchange with ours.
Might be able to get some of the time attackers that use hondas, but doubt NASA HC would give it a second look.
Might want to change the name from extreme speed honda challenge to something less already used!
Thats like piggy backing off someone elses name and IMO isnt cool.
Be original not copying.. Make it work off its own merits not in conjunction with something already done.

I think they tossed honda challenge out there because they wanted to open it to integra, civic, rsx models. This is meant to be a "run what you brung" time attack styled challenge hence the weird rules, it is geared towards HPDE'rs like myself that have dailys but want a little competition in the mix. I have talked to the owner of extreme speed and he was willing to start something like the 350z challenge which is relaxed and fun with competition tossed in.

Re: Extreme Speed Honda Challenge in the making - So. Cal tracks
I'm all for having as many places to play as possible-
And if you're going to have a "Run what you brung" event, Why not do just that!
Don't concern yourself with rules until you have had a couple of events, then take a look at the cross section of entries you get, then start asking your own competitors what they want.
If a good number they turn up, rather than being turned off by the rules... and if they have fun it doesnt really matter what the rules are! After a few events the natural law of competition/ Skill and $$$$ spent will show you which cars should be in which class.
I think an event like this would be fun for the odd track day a year guy, and great for the serious (series) racer to use for testing and extra seat time where there is the chance for everyone to adjust to competing with slower and faster traffic, Surely the best way to hone the skills of both the experienced, and inexperienced drivers?

I think the owner didn't want guys to be turned off by being paired with wrx, evo, 350, s2000 etc.. so they want a integra/ civic group so it doesn't intimidate hpde guys. I can see where they might see rules and shy away but the rules seem pretty lax but keep the fast guys in their own group. This is being done on lapping days so I dont think it will be very intense competition. I will see what the owner thinks of points brought up. He mentioned rules could be modified to accommodate more people, so we will see if they change anything.

Re: Extreme Speed Honda Challenge in the making - So. Cal tracks
Hey Guys,
I dont mean to cross any lines here but a HPDE civic/integra challenge is already happening.
I have been working with the guys at speedventures to create an almost identical series.
We are using a points system to create the 4 classes. similar to the S2K and Miata challenges.
Its called the HFF Challenge.
We have already had a multiple shakedown events to work out some minor kinks with the rules. Our first event this year had 20+ cars and we are lining up some great sponsors to help generate some more interest and prizes for the drivers.
I wont go into great detail here since this isn't my thread. But for whatever its worth i thought i would put it out there.
The reason i haven't posted info on our series is because we have been working to finalize the rules and wanted them to be final before we posted them up.
I will try to post up info ASAP.

Jeff is correct, NASA can't trademark the term/phrase "honda challenge", as Honda belongs to some one else.
Also "honda challenge" has been the name of a Tennis Tournament that Honda sponsors for years now, well it was during the mid 90s to around 05ish the last time i looked.

Yes for now they are adding all models together, until the first few shakedowns and things start to pan out. For additional info you can go to their website or pm me, if not hope to see you there the April 2nd.

I am glad to see all these different racing series in the works! Seems like things may be slowly picking up for all of us and we can get back to how things used to be before the huge economical slump. Keep us all posted!

Yeah if I wasn't incarcerated here by UCF and property values I'd most likely dip west.
It has its good points though I guess.

Re: Extreme Speed Honda Challenge in the making - So. Cal tracks
I like the format, but I think the street class is a bit too tight on mods. I mean no header for a b series motor? Most all cars will have one. If that is what might bump you to a R-compound tire, I think it will kill a lot of potential people that might be interested. And im not sure what this means
"Roll Cages allowed (No adjustable point bolt-in cages)"
So no bolt in cages?

I think that rule needs to be clarified... pretty sure that they meant to exclude the Cusco/Safety21 deathtraps...

Re: Extreme Speed Honda Challenge in the making - So. Cal tracks
That is correct, but bolt in roll cages are fine. As far as the header issue if it really is common and bumps people into street modified and they can't compete then it might be changed. As of right now they are waiting for the first event to come about and they will change rules as necessary to keep things competitive.
