Default East Coast Honda Challenge Thread (+ H2 Integra Build Thread)

So, I thought it may be cool to put up some progress as I move toward my goal of making my Integra H2 legal, and going for my competition license in Feb (Comp school at VIR w/ NASA). There's some work to be done, but not impossible, so why not share my struggles and assorted vulgar language with you all.

Backround Story:

2000 Acura Integra LS.

I've actually owned this car since new. Purchased in 2000 as a managers demo car with 83 miles on it. It was my second car when I was 16 (First was a 71' bronco, yeee haw!).

I've had all kinds of fun with this car,

I've had 5 different variety of engines in this car, and a few different types of suspensions.

The last version of this was the most fun in my opinion, It was a K20A2 built around H1 rules and just a blast (this was a few years ago). As H1 speeds progressed, my dreams of being an H1 driver seemed further out of reach, so I just tracked the car and instructed a few events with NASA.

After talking with Lo BUK, stinky, and slammed_93, I had come to the conclusion that H2 would be a sweet idea with a K20A3. So here we are.

K20A3
Old *** buddy club RSD's 800 / 1000
Stock front bar, ITR rear
PCI bearings
ITR front calipers
Rear cage done by Piper, The front portion done by Mid-Atlantic (MA) Motorsports

As it sits.

Finally got all of the sound deadining out of there, when all the seat fab is finished, I am going to paint the interior grey.

Racetech (Awesome seat!!)

Engine bay missing all of the glory of the flagship K-series engine, the A3!!

Fuel filter set up (more handy when I WAS using ethanol, washable stainless filter)

Chassis harness, the ENTIRE thing.

Harness for the Datalogger, and my old aem computer (old skool #0064!), poor substitute to the computer that I would prefer to use.

Closer of the Data harness (front and rear pressure sensor plugs)

Relay panel (aka a front SAM, any of you mercedes nerds similar to myself would get that one lol)

The A3

Rear shot of the cage, that sticker is for you spence!

Old faithful, still running strong! K20A2 (all k20a parts)

Things I have to do still:

Complete seat mounting (which involves floor modification).
Re-make exhaust (for slightly better fitment compared to how it is now).
Install fire sys.
Paint interior.
Install motor, and find someone to tune it
Corner weigh again. (with help from the services of penn engineering :shameless plug: )
Make "better" brake ducting
Re-do UGLY *** sunroof plug.

Make my header FINALLY, if there is time.

I'll probably remember more as time goes, but hey its a build thread. I'll try my best to keep it going.

Any questions ask away!

sander

Id like to know how you built that interior harness and what does it power up?
Id like to rip out all my interior harness and simplify everything.
details!

Very sharp so far keep it coming!

Are you allowed to run the 6 speed LSD K20Z3 (or the JDM R one) in H2 ?

Glad to see the progress!!

Lets see what you can get the weight down too..

Bob will be interested to see what weight you come in at, as he has the same car as you.

I am excited to see more people running the a3!

Yes, but you have to add in +50lbs for the 6 speed.

Thanks, the wiring is very simple!

Brake lights, tail lights, fuel pump, wipers, headlights, ignition (and other associated devices), and the cooling fan.

The logger harness is just for the dash, it gathers it's engine data from the RS 232 port on the aem ecu. I am logging brake pressure for each axle, oil press, fuel press, and an accelerometer.

Thanks!

Pat,

Yes, as others have said, you take +50 lbs for using it. I am going to use a Y2M3, (JDM R transmission).

Jimmy,

Thanks man! Just for ref, The car with me in it before was 2410 with a quarter tank. That was with a pass seat, belts on the pass side, carpet, sound material, and a full stainless exhaust. I think I can get to min (2350 with the 6 spd).

egeezy,

I hope it can!

Spence,

You guys should come down when I get it on the dyno, I'll obviously probably go to joes anyway!

Karl,

I hope too do at least one, I've been to CMP and really enjoyed it!

Fireant,

Yeah, I have both metal and plastic. I had planned on testing both, although I would be suprised if the plastic one made more than the shorter runner metal one. I'll be testing them both, along with a header or two.

Thanks for all the good words everyone.

The plastic one might not deal with heat as well over the length of a race, even if it does happen to make better power on the dyno. That is 100% conjecture.

i'll tune that thing for you beau....i guarentee 150 hp out of it to the wheels....i tell ya what i'll do for you....get you more tq than hp....reverse the firing order of you cam and we'll make gobs of power....

of course your h2 competitors are paying me more to tune your car for you than you will be!!

hahaha

looks good sander....i have 2 spare k20a3's if you are wanting one to tear down and rebuild for a spare....maybe i'll throw one in my car and go see what i can run with it...

shooting for 2.07 at vir full this year....wing some front aero and an LSD might do the trick...an some tires that aren't 3 years old!

other way around.

plastic IM sucks, and the PRB makes more power.

I'm assuming you can't use a RBC IM?
