Default Distributors and endurance racing. Where to buy?

Our endurance car(92 hatch) has a JDM R swap and we've had poor luck with parts store distributors. Wondering what everyone else uses. I've contacted HPD but our housing has been discontinued through Honda so I couldn't build an OEM one from parts. I'm specifically using one for the 95 Del Sol B16a3

Thanks!

All you can do is keep searching for an OEM one. See if your rules allow an external ignition box with an aftermath ACCELL internal coil. That's what most do.

And they have a warranty too.
Never burned one up as you claim, but i do carry a second in my box of spares when i go to the track.
OEM is getting tougher and tougher to find.

Be weary of buying lifetime warranty parts from Oreilly auto parts. I bought a starter in 2014, failed in 2016 (got a warranty) then it failed again exactly one year later. I probably went to 3 track events in that one year with little to no street driving. They didn't want to warranty the last one. They apparently got a new system and rules where they cut off lifetime warranties after a certain number of times. This isn't mentioned anywhere on warranty disclaimers on their website. I've also had similar headaches with axles from them on my old daily driver.

In addition, what good is a warranty if you have to swap out the damn thing all the time? I never found any VALUE in that. Let me get something once, put it on, and be done with it for what's needed. Warranties only make people feel good about garbage they receive.

I go by this motto:

If you convert to a OBD2 distributor and run a OBD1-2 jumper harness, you should be able to get parts easy. 99-00 civic SiR (canada) i think they were just SI in the states, came with a B16A2. We have 2 cars right now, One 95 delsol running OBD1 with a OBD2 ECU and jumper harness and a 99 civic with OBD2 harness and a OBD1 ECU. Then we keep a OBD2 distributor and a ODB1-2 jumper harness as a spare. Ive run it a bunch over the years without a problem. Also super easy to get parts as its just a 99-00 civic SI/SIR distributor. But some dealer stuff in $$$$$$$$$$$ but we always buy Honda Coils and Ignitors. Problem is good sensors for inside it.

Actually, the Genuine Honda OEM Distributors in the States are very hard to come by now, because of the destruction and loss of them over the years. Whether it be OBD2 or OBD1 (1 & 2 plug) harness systems. I'm keeping mine as a spare part for possibly another build along with other spare parts getting rare. I'm selling off a few individual parts because they have been sitting tucked away for quite a while now.

But if you have Genuine Honda Distributors, Starters, Alternators, etc. KEEP 'EM & REBUILD 'EM, because it's only going to get rarer.

Who is a good source for Genuine OEM? I've come to accept that nothing for Racecar is cheap. :sigh:

to the op and anyone else who needs this
what you can do is find an oem b-series housing and then you can use 92-00 d-series innards to rebuild them. plenty of those oem distributors around and ive been doing this for years

I have no issues with swapping brake rotors every few events, that is tons of VALUE to me... Have had the same rotor warranty since like 2000, somehow I only paid for 1 set ever but I have 3 sets now.

That's not a warranty, that's just abusing a replacement policy outside of its original intention from the manufacturer. That doesn't apply to my example here.

And if your only getting 3 events out of a good set, you may want to look at other companies.

I agree with this, I have been doing this for awhile now, I typically just search ebay and pick up complete working oem d series distributors for around $10 or shipped. Then strip them apart and test the coil, ignitor, etc...

I have a couple boxes full of extra internals, caps, rotors, wiring, etc... along with 2 complete extra b series distributors ready to go for my civic. After destroying my first richporter distributor I gave up on it and rebuilt my original oem one and started collecting parts as spares. I think I still have four d series distributors in a box that I haven't taken apart yet.

You don't have to go that route unless you feel you must. Plenty of solutions available note, just might have to think a little older school than you're used to. We just went external digital box, and a got external ciil when the pushed to the limit in time attack turbo Hondas; and we need lots more spark than the OEM can hold.

do you recommend a good aftermarket distributor? since its hard to come by a oem one. all the aftermarket ones i had either failed or blew apart on the inside.

nope. Not as a self-sustaining unit. We do what I stated above to the aftermarket units with external ignition boxes and external coils..

OR

(Using the Aftermarket Distributor) switch out it's ICM and use an ACCEL ICM replacement unit..That's been the most budget-minded solution we've used for years.

Stay away from non-OEM.

I've also had my share of badluck with those (2 died within 1000km).

I'm wondering....has anyone tried rebuilding a OEM/Fake unit, which brands to pick for the coil, module, bearings etc?

Again, I have but only for the coil assembly. Not the (normally) Hitachi igniter or bearings. By the time you do all that, you can go external on the box and/or coil. After that point, it becomes cost prohibitive to find and rebuild all the little parts like the bearings and such
