are they structually safe? like is there any way you could weld those in? and is a bolted in cage like less safe than no cage at all?

1) A rollcage in a street car is a bad idea, in the event of an accident, your head, without a helmet, is going to go flying into steel.
2) The cusco roll cage is not even a roll cage, its just a showpiece that bolts together. Very poor design, zero safety enhancement.

Bolt in cages are not all bad. edit: don't know why I said cages, I meant BARS.
They are good for what they are made to be used for. Autocross, occasional HPDEs or track days in your daily driver, sure. In your dedicated race car, no.

not really. I dont see why you even need a bar for auto-cross or HPDEs , unless you intend to uninstall them when you are on the street. ANY sort of saftey bar is very dangerous on the street. There is a reason why your steering wheel, seats, dash, etc are not solid steel (insteal are bendable). Even a harness bar posses a threat in a street colision
There are 2 options
1) Run bolt in harnesses (like the scroth rallye 4/quickfit) and only use em at the track
2) Run a full cage, with harness and a helmet.
Cage without harness=bad
harness without cage=bad
cage without helmet=bad

Here's a simple way to determine if a roll cage is actually a roll cage, or just ricer bling that impersonates a real roll cage... find out if it's SCCA and NASA legal. If it's not, it's just useless JDM junk.
Also, as others have explained, you really have to be careful when it comes to running cages on the street. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's always horribly unsafe, but it certainly is a legitimate concern, and I personally would want a custom cage (ie maximum head and body clearance) with good padding, and of course FIA approved seats and belts.
I know a guy who had a good cage and an approved harness, but stock seats. When he wrecked, the softness of his stock seats allowed his ribs to hit the cage and break, which knocked the air out of him pretty bad. He was unresponsive when course workers got to him, even though it took them a couple of minutes to get there (they had to cross traffic). I wouldn't have even thought about stock seats being a problem if I hadn't been there to see it. These racing safety devices are really designed to be all or nothing... you can't just pick and choose which ones you want to use; if you use one, you usually need them all.

Cusco rollcage welds... They look absolutely like ****.
As for rollcages being dangerous in street cars, I'm not going to sign on that.

Re: Cusco Roll Cage? (Flashmn)
Some of the people commenting about them being unsafe need to review some of the threads in the past posted on HT where people owe their lives to roll cages put in their street cars. Wheather they be Cusco bolt in ones, Monkey Bars, or an actual race designed cage. There have been atleast a dozen threads where it looks like there would be no chance for survival but in actuality the person not only made it out alive but alive and in decent shape.
