I am just wondering what you guys do to prevent your rotors from getting warped.

I have seen people say that they take a full cool down lap and go easy on the brakes and just let them cool down.

I have also heard people say they drive around in the pits to cool them down.

I also hear of people parking the car and not using e-brake and let the car sit.

And the last method i hear is people parking their car and moving the car a few feet every 5 minutes or so to let the pad move to a different part of the rotor as to not sit on that exact spot with all the heat trapped inside that area.

So what is YOUR method?

Hawk pads and Brembo rotors for 3 years of track days. Never a warped rotor. Cracked a few, but never warped.

It depends on how hard I ran on the track. If it's a full blown race, and I come off real hot - I'll put the car up on stands, remove the wheels and rotate the hubs every couple of minutes till the cool down a bit.

A Porsche guy gave me this tip when bedding new pads to new rotors:

Jack the drive wheels off the ground. Use stands and block ground wheels. Start engine and let the car run in second gear at idle for about five minutes.

This ensures the rotors and pads are cooled evenly and that thee isn't any heat-trap on the rotors. I only do this when using new rotors for the first time...

Use your cool down lap for just that.... to cool things off. If possible, I'll take the cool down lap without using the brakes at all.

Mike, I do all of those things you mentioned after each lapping session.

Aparently there is no such thing as a warped rotor, but you do need to cool your brakes. a guy on G2IC posted this:

yeah, try not to touch the brakes on your cooldown lap...i've heard this is an exercise they use at some driving schools as well, it's interesting how you do when you can't use the middle pedal.

I take my brake cooldown a little to the extreme, but when I get only 2 weekends out of a set of $200 'race' rotors I think its pretty justified.
I dont touch the brakes on the checkered lap, then I drive around the pits, and on to one of the access roads for at least 5 minutes, usually 10. When I pull in to park the car I dont touch the brakes, i either coast to a stop or lightly pull the e-brake (my car uses an internal drum for the ebrake btw) then about every 5 minutes I move the car a little bit
