Best STS tire????

Best STS tire????
Simple question right? Probably not! I was just wondering if I could get some opinions as to what tires you guys are using? I am running a 2k1 Civic. As far as suspension I have eibach sportlines and an RSX rear sway bar (19mm). My wheel and tire combo are rota slipstreams and kumho escta (sp?) 205 50 15.
I ask this because I am tired of loosing to those damn scoobies.
any suggestions?

Looks like Aj made it home ok
Definitely the best tire for the money is the Falken Azenis. I'm running the 205/50x15" and haven't lost yet this year There are guys in my class finally got their Azenis but they are slowly catching up (1.5 seconds behind me now, 2-3 seconds before).
I might try the BFG g-force TA KDs next

Mike is tearing it up in STS with those Azenis. He was faster than most of the classes that allow R-compound tires. He definitely got first under the PAX standings.
Great job today, Mike!

Actually I think I might have gotten 2nd. John Guanera in the Neon was about 1 second faster than me. Don't think I was fast enough.
But yeah I was doing better than most people who were on DOT racing tires who always beat me at other events

Azenis, like everyone else said.
If you have too much money in your wallet and wish to lighten it, then get some BFG KDs, as they seem to have better "feel" and close to the same overall grip.

Not that I'm disagreeing with the whole Falken Azeni phenomenon -- I've got them and love them, too -- but let's remember that last year's Solo II STS Nat'l Champ, Jason Tipple, won on Bridgestones. And he also happens to drive a Honda product. So, he beat the overdog STS favorite car (those pesky Subbie 'Prezas) without running on the perennial favorite STS tires. Great accomplishment in my book.

I run Bridgestone Pole Position S-03s in STS, and I love them. They are great on the street too - unbelievably grippy in the wet and very quiet on the road. I've had the S-03s on for 5 autoX events so far, and they have been holding up great. I've heard good things about the Azenis also - which are considerably cheaper. But, unfortunately, they don't come in a good size for my car...
BTW, I drive the white 5th gen Prelude in Philly STS. I don't think we've ever spoken, but I think I've seen your car at almost all the Philly SoloII events...

Re: Best STS tire???? (CivicSiRacer)
The top STS driver in SCCA-Chicago and Tri-State Sports Car Council drives a '91 Sentra SE-R on BFG G-force TA/KD and he swears by them.
The new Kumho Ectsa MX looks promising. For $52 a tire shipped, I couldn't pass up the Azenis for my old 14s. Next year i'm thinking about getting the 15x7 OZ Supperlegerra (11 lbs, gunmetal, and none of the extra holes that the Konigs/Rotas have) with either azenis or the kumho mx in 205/50.

Now also factor that if your not winning or placing in the top 3 every event buying the g-force T/A KDs are going to put you there. The Azenis won't either but your not going to go broke for a 3rd, 4th, 5th or even 6th place. Azenis are by far the best performance (wet or dry) for the money hands down!!
FYI 205/50-15 PP S-03s are $110 each.

Re: Best STS tire???? (Civic242)
Well we know the g-force T/A KDs are super sticky but they will cost you $150 per 205/50-15 tire!!! Where as the same size Azenis will cost you only $70-$74 per 205/50-15 tire. So what would you rather spend $600 or $296 for tires that are nearly identical in performance wet or dry.

Re: Best STS tire???? (Philbert)
I did read your post but just trying to highlight why the Azenis are a better value then the KDs for others to see.
And don't hold your breath for the MXs Grassroots was going to do a STS tire shoot out next month for the Sept/Oct issue and they were suppose to have Kumho MXs to run vers Azenis, PP S-03s and a few others but they just found out that the MXs have been again delayed. But the word is that they aren't up to the Azenis or KDs in terms of traction.
Read all about the test in this post.

I was hoping to see the results between the Azenis, KD and MXs but if the Azenis tie and beat the KDs in parts of the testing I'll be more then happy to stick with them. :D

Re: Best STS tire???? (Civic242)
Judging from the preference of someone we all know who has both tires... the BFGs might be a smidge better than the Falkens. Much more expensive but hey, you asked for the *best* STS tire.

Re: Best STS tire???? (CivicSiRacer)
Who are you talking to? Me? I fancy the Philly events once in awhile.
For your Prelude I would have gone with 215/45x16" in the Azenis tires.
