is 450/550 spring rate too high for tociko illuminas?
i have a crx and ground controls with a 450/550 spring rate, i wanna get illuminas but before i get them i wanna make sure that they can handle the spring rate that i have and if not what adjustables are up to the task?

Oh yeah, Koni Sports (Yellow) and Bilstein HD are the affordable ones that are up to the duty. The Bilsteins will be a little cheaper, and they are not adjustable. They are "self-adjusting". The Konis you can adjust the rebound stiffness and height with a moveable perch. Peace.
P.S. I run Koni Yellows and love them.

I'd say Bilstein for great ride and decent performance or Koni for great performance and decent ride. The self-adjusting Bilsteins don't stiffen-up fast enough for great turn-in or transients, but their self-adjusting nature makes them ride better than adjustable shocks whose rates, although variable while sitting still, are fixed while you're moving.
Edit: Nevermind, at those spring rates ride quality is already out the window and a non-issue.

Stock Illuminas can take a regular beating with a 500 lb spring setup? If so then I might reconsider switching over to Koni Sports and stay with, my Illumina's and upgrade the springs to ERS ones.

Sounds good...only problem I see is that I only have the Illuminas on the front - regular HP's on the rear - but then I can sell the rears and Eibach Pro-Kit springs and break out about even I think. Wouldn't autocrossing be a little harder on the suspension though? Oh well, anything to save some money. ...And that way hopefully I'll get Halo's 'racing' PR4 head without worrying about going too much into savings...

i guess i will go with the koni yellows, the only bad thing is that i have the springs on tociko blues and you need a new adapter or like a new sleeve to put koni shocks on the ground controls, i guess i will have to get them too when i get the shocks.

For the GCs and Konis, you will need new threaded bodies up front. $58 from GC. In the rear, just adapters.
I am running 550s in the rear on Konis and they seem to be working well.

What I mean is will it being able to hold up to roadracing directly translate to it holding up to the tighter back and forth nature of autocrossing? Im pretty sure the stress levels are about equal, so I guess this is a purely academic discussion then...

The suspension I have is actually RoadRacer's old autocross setup. He ran it very successfully for 5 years and it is still working. If anything it isn't really stiff enough for road racing.
