Track: Pacific Raceways in Kent WA
Car: Honda CRX
Class: ITA
Sanctioning body: International Conference of Sports Car Clubs (ICSCC)

Started from the back of the group. Caught first place, some contact occured then safety car... Fun race. Not proud of driving around with my middle finger in the air but hey, sometimes that's racing.

Track: atlantic motorsports park (canada)
Car: 95 Del Sol Vtec. (B17A1 swaped in. Mostly stock)
Class: GT-3 (Kinda like STU and STO put together)
Club: ARMS
GT-A race. First race of the day. We are way out gunned in the class. But i ran the rookie in the BMW for a few laps. He droped a tire before T3 and spun off track. Pretty boring after that. And yes i know i know i shouldnt suffle my hands around. I try not to.

Stop shuffling your hands.
Ok but seriuosly if you want to relieve that habit try a slightly closer seating position if possible... looks a bit stretched but I don't know how the rest of your car is set up that may not be an option (I am pretty far back in mine but luckily the steering ratio is very tight so I never have to go beyond 1/2 turn)

One thing to point out if I may from the video: I noticed (from the exhaust note which got my attention while casually watching your vid)... your on/off throttle modulation in a few turns. Now I don't know the track or car but here what I think I see:
It looks like you may be using a bit too much braking before the turn and then making your turn-in. Once you're turned in you have a lot of grip so you hit the gas... but then you reach the limit quickly because you hit the gas a bit early for the corner... so you have to lift... this repeats because it is a long corner.
If you actually brake less while trailing a bit into the corner you will car much more speed... now you will not be getting on the gas until a later point in the turn but you will end up having a higher cornering speed... if this is kept smooth. The key to this would be to be very smooth off the brakes with steering input... Might be stuff you already know sorry if you do and maybe you are working on this type of thing - I know I always am.

Do you agree/disagree?
Nice pass btw :-)

The theoretical best braking method is to use left foot braking and overlap the brake/throttle in most cases.. but with production cars that is almost always impossible (Unless you have an LS transmission where you never shift out of 3rd gear :-P)

Shuffling is still something I try and keep my students from getting in the habit of doing and so far I have had success. When looking back at my videos I get a lot of snap oversteer in the Spitfire (that awesome transverse leaf rear end) and if I had my hands shuffling I would never be able to make the quick corrections mid-corner and not upset the car if I were to 'misplace' the steering wheel or my hands.

I agree on the turn in throttle. I was having trouble with turn 2 this year and he mentioned that I am turning in a jumping on the gas a bit to much. Id get loads of grip but as the car settled it would push out. I changed the front springs from the 450s front to 600s, and the rear from 600s to 650s. This help alot but i still would push out. I need to work on corner entry as it will help my exit more then i think at times. We race in 2 weeks and have gone over a lot of track video from others from atlantic motorsports park. I have a few things i will try, but the big thing is getting the car smoother into the corners. I run my 95 civic Cx with 90 odd Hp durning time attacks and have much better corner speed then in the del sol. Theres a big power difference. I brake to much for Turn 7 most of the time. But in the video i started to pick it up a bit as i see my hands doing more work in 7. starting to slide mid corner.

For the shuffling of my hand the seating postion might help. ill try, But i try and keep my hands 10 and 2 all the time because when the car slides out i catch it the best with them there. I need to force myself to stop it as i know i shouldnt do it. Hopefully my next video ill do it a bit less. lol. Thanks for the advise, This is my 3rd year road racing and will never turn down advise. The track we run has alot of difficult corners and bumps. I use the throttle to help it turn. lol. Sometimes i like to just make a bunch of noise. lol

Autocrossing a car I don't fit in with a slow rack got me in that habbit. So far so good with catching the big slides
I remember gary shehan (subaru guy) would refuse to move his hands on the wheel. So all his cars had to have steering quickeners.

Wait, you talkin' bout me, Willis??! haha.

I used to shuffle when I started, I don't now. I think it comes from everyday driving, just like many other "habits"; bad or indifferent. In my daily it is harder to keep both hands on the wheel without shuffling due to seat height and proximity to the steering wheel due to short legs. Spence might shuffle for a similar reason in his race car.

I read on Facebook one time, on a national autocrosser's page, about shuffling. One guy mentioned how that he had been working on "the skill". You have to think of the inputs required. The inputs needed on track are less abrupt and the need to be "smoother" is greater.

I don't think that "shuffling" makes you slower, but I do think that it takes away from some of the "feel" that you can acquire through the wheel.

Here's my in car footage from Sunday's HFF Challenge at Buttonwillow. My best of the day was 2:00.6 which is in the video. And placed 2nd in the Super Modified class of HFF.

This is what happens when I rent my car to the guy who taught me how to kick ***... This video is absolutely worth watching. A battle between 2 H4 CRX's in slightly different trim.

If that video doesn't make somebody want to race I don't know what will. It looked like just before getting passed by the CRX, he was a little distracted/spaced out. The revs dropped, wrong gear, then trouble finding the gear.

That track also looks suicidal to drive a high HP car in the wet.

Nice race!! Did it rain on Saturday? How many H2 cars were there?

Also how do you mount the GoPro onto the I/O mount? Thanks!
