quarter panel rust question
while doin some work on my del sol today i saw i had more rust in the quarter panel than previously thought. i also have it on the rocker panels under the side skirts. ordering the rocker panels from a place like majestic honda is gonna be 130 a piece plus a crazy ass shipping fee. my girls bro in laws, bro in law owns a metal place and they throw out a lot of scrap metal. he says he can get 3/8 inch metal and cut out the rust and weld that in.
my question is would 3/8 inch be too thick? if so what should i use and what kind of metal? also iv looked on fixmyrust.com but they didnt have any panels for a 93 del sol. |
Re: quarter panel rust question
lol 3/8 is way to big. you need like 18g or 20 gauge steel

Re: quarter panel rust question
ok i thought it was too big. why steel? arent most panels made of aluminum or somethin like that? i havent done body work in a LONG time so i dont remember most of what i learned

Re: quarter panel rust question
ok so ill have to use standard steel. i forgot about welding two diffrent kinda metals and all that. would i be able to spray somethin like a truck bed liner or anything similar underneath the car to keep it from rusting again? and what else could i do to prevent rust?

Re: quarter panel rust question
I use undercoating on my car and I drive it every winter with salted roads and it works great.
