2003 Elantra - no acceleration/dying
Hey Guys,
Need some help!
2003 Hyundai Elantra 2.0L
Never used to be unable to fill with gas w/o the pump clicking off. What happened was the charcoal canister has been overfilled and charcaol got in the system. So, replaced fuel filter, canister, and all the lines that were clogged with charcoal. It fixed the filling problems.
One month later, the CEL came on and it began to randomly not accelerate (i.e. you'll be driving and when you go to accelerate it somewhat stumbles and when pressing the gas pedal it wouldnt do anything but eventually after 3 or 4 seconds of full throttle it will come back and act like nothing happened). Also, it will SOMETIMES die at stop sign.
So, i Seafoamed the car, changed plugs, and it ran fine for a day or two. Then the CEL came back on with some Evap code (wasnt there to read it). So, all signs pointed to the MAP sensor. Replaced the map sensor and it did the same thing. Went to advance auto and got codes p0134 and p0130. Reset the code, drove around, it died at a stoplight, and then replaced it with a OEM map sensor. The CEL is still off but the car did the exact same thing.
Any ideas? Need help ASAP! Maybe fuel pump or vacuum leak?

pretty sure this is anything non-Honda/Acura goes, tech or otherwise.
OP - P0134 is front bank O2 sensor failure. can cause everything you've just described. get a new O2 sensor and the problem should go away. if it doesn't, then there's a larger problem going on.

I never really thought a bad o2 sensor would cause intermittent problems like that but I am going to go ahead and get a new one. Assuming it is like every other car/my Honda (the hyundai is my g/f's car) the secondary o2 sensor is there JUST to read how well the cat is working correct? If so, I plan on using the spark plug defouler trick for that after getting a new upstream sensor.
Thanks again! Will update as to how the new sensor fixes the problem when it arrives.

This is HONDA TECH. Not hyundai tech. there are no specified forums for hyundai technical issues. He posted a technical question/issue in the "other makes appearance/cosmetic" forum. Pretty sure anything non-Honda/Acura does not go. Take a quick surf through this this forum, and let me if anyone besides a newbs/confused persons posted any technical questions.

This is an underused section. Not only did he get help, but he is actually using that underused section. No pictures, no hotlinking, no taking up bandwith, etc. Problem solved, it will sink to the bottom, you can sleep soundly.
I've seen plenty of tech discussed in app/cos. In this section, build threads, etc.

Variable, I am not posting in your bug eyed teggy forum so why does it even matter/why are you looking in the other make and model threads? Go tell on me to your mommy and daddy if it will make you feel better.

You bother checking voltage on the 02? I mean worth it instead of blowin a couple bucks. Plus the stumbling and reaccel makes it seem more a vacuum issue. Have you ever changed the purge solenoid too?

It doesn't really stumble, it just randomly will not accelerate for a few seconds and then drive like normal. It has only died very rarely. If it was a vacuum leak wouldn't it occur more consistently?

Only thing I'm detoured is the fact one is an evap issue other is exhaust related. What you probably did to help it by adding it the sea foam might've cleaned up the o2. In open loop it's looking at chart and would reference that for voltage, closed loop this is usually 100 millivolts to 600 millivolts. Lower lean higher rich. Of course voltage can differ due to type of o2. But you most likely have a zirconia.

Got the new o2 sensor in tonight. Ran fine on the short test drive but the CEL is still on. So, I will see if it'll go off later or if the 2nd o2 is keeping it on. When it goes on a longer drive we'll see if it acts up. Hope not!
The old o2 sensor was covered in white.
