Haha cutting the wheel off happened because the stud stripped out on the hub and at the same time the lug nut welded itself to the stud. So all it would do is spin, I needed to get that wheel/tire off there to put new tires on the car to make it in the Pro Am Comp that day.
So snap decision, cut the wheel off, saw the stud off then get on the track ASAP.
lol the guys at the Thunderhill garage let me use all kinds of tools to get the wheel off... then 2 hours in one of them goes why don't we just use the "jaws of life". 2 minutes later it was off.

That was 60 years ago.... It was obviously a terrible group of people, but I don't see why it's such a big deal. The guy just did it to make it look like an army car. However a simple star would have probably been more socially acceptable.
