Need help with ford ranger

I know this is a car site in need of help though, thought id start here. Its a 2001 ford ranger has under 100,000 miles my dad was on his way home from work and the truck ran just fine. I live in Iowa and had first big snow storm and my dad got stuck in driveway and went to neighbors to get pulled out , I didnt know where he was so I shut the truck off. Went to start the truck back up and it started to ticking. So we changed the battery and would get one tick. So we then changed the starter (got it from a junk yard it was cheapest moneys tight) and its still making the single click. We tried turning the crank as well and it didnt budge so I thought the motor was seized. But could it seize that quickly it was running just fine ,
Please leave negative comments out I need help ASAP

When I had that problem in my fullsize Bronco it ended up being the starter solenoid.

You should. On my truck (and some of the older Rangers) it was mounted on the fender. I'm not entirely sure where it is on yours, it may be on the starter itself.

So we really dont know if its seized yet?
And is there chance it could be a ground or a wire of some sort?
