1973 chevy vega GT
well I finally took pictures of my project. I bought a '73 vega gt a few months back and I didn't really know what I wanted to do with it. As of 2 weeks ago I decided what I wanted to do. A ford mustang SVO motor swap. The mustang SVO came with a turbocharged 2.3l 4cylinder engine. I have seen them run pretty quick in the quarter. So I thought, why not put one in a chevy vega? Sorry to all for putting a ford engine in a chevy but it looked like it would be an easy swap. Being 19 years old, money is a little tight so Im trying to make this as cheap as possible. Heres my project so far.
My Vega
I fabbed up some engine mounts
adapter plate that I made to adapt a GM TH350 transmission to the ford engine.
more pictures to come.

Have you considered putting a 16v Volvo head on the 2.3L? It's not exactly bolt-on but it's fairly popular with SVO engines.

Yeah I think I might do that next spring. I was reading about that head swap.

Props on the Vega. I recently saw a nice one sbc 383, which is just the typical V8 vega most people are used to.
I wouldn't mind having deep pockets, I wondered a few time what would be involved in swapping in an ecotec swap from either a Pontiac Solstice or a Saturn Sky. A boosted Ecotec Vega!! That would be a hell of a ride. Good luck with your project, might not be an Ecotec, but at least you've got boost.

I was thinking about the ecotec too when I got this engine. that would cost a lot though haha. but it would be awesome.
Got a picture of the pistons before I brought them to the machine shop.
flat top TRW (speed pro) pistons. should get me to aroubd 9:1 compression. Should be a good combo with the stock forged crank anbd stock forged rods.

Just a quick question about the SVO motor. Do they have a good aftermarket following? Just wondering since I've had the itch to get an 80's or early 90's Mustang. I was thinking a 5.0 like most people would but I remember seeing an SVO in the local classifieds a few months ago.

the block and the crank are done at the machine shop. I got the pins pressed into the rods so the pistons are done too. now I need rings and gaskets.

Im shooting for between 350 and 400 horse. I know its capable of more. but I think it will be fun with that much power.

Be sure to upload some vids of the "fun" part if you can!

Re: (Smokinsax)
got my megasquirt completed Heres a picture the board on the back with the lights is the tester board that I can test RPM,IAT,Coolant temp, TPS, and the O2 sensor functions. the lights indicate the injectors firing and fuel pump power. Its kind of cool to see it work.

Re: (73vegaGT)
I picked out some injectors that Im pretty sure will flow the right amount of fuel for the horsepower. I think that the siemens 60# injectors willl work. They flow 60 lbs/hr and are high impedance so I wont have to buy an injector flyback circuit.

I'm interested to see how quick this will run, a buddy of mine in high school had a vega with a 350 vortec stuffed in it, on the bottle. It was pretty scary.
