Default CEL, TCS, flash D4 and code P1705

So I have had this for a while, it has happened on and off. But the meat and potatoes of it is I have a 2004 Honda Odyssey, I have had the flashing D4 with the CEL and TCS light on before a while ago and then it stopped and never saw it again. Well it's been back again. And now I'm really scratching my head. I replaced the neutral safety switch/range position switch, and reset the computer. And it's back again. When I look up the code it tells me the wiring, range position switch or ECM. My van had this before I replaced the part too. It would start fine in park or neutral and not in any other gear like it's suppose to. I'm at a lost now. Any help would be appreciated.

Flashing D4 is telling you that there is a transmission code. You pulled the code which is p1705 that means you have a short in the transmission range switch circuit....so its either
- Faulty Transmission Range Switch
- Transmission Range Switch harness is open or shorted
- Transmission Range Switch circuit poor electrical connection

This means get a multi meter and check all the wiring, connectors and modules that may be on the harness that those wires go to. Pretty sure that will solve your issue.

Okay thank you, I was already thinking that was my next step but I wanted to see if there was anything I was missing. I already replaced the part to have the same reoccurrence so now it's onto getting back under and checking the wiring. Hopefully I can find the wire that's bad and just do a jumper pass for now until I can afford to replace or fix the wiring harness.

Thank you!

Check the connectors for corrosion too. You may have continuity but corrosion can keep the circuit from operating properly because of high resistance.

I'm adding to this thread because I searched for days trying to find out what caused my P1705.

99 Honda Accord
P1705 Short in Transmission range circuit
No first gear or overdrive
Shifts hard from P to R and R to D
Flashing D4

According to the factory service manual I replaced the following.
Range Switch
PCM
Checked all wires for opens and shorts.
Nothing worked, I checked all the voltages and they were completely off from the manual.

Problem Solved:

Check in the drivers side under dash area around the ignition, basically you'll be looking for anything that's doesn't look factory. Mine had what I assume is a remote start but it could also be an alarm system. Removed it and it's fixed the issue, no D4 blinking no rough shifts and all gears work. Basically the box attached to the ignition was shorting out the signal voltage going to the ECU.
