2012 Odyssey Starter

2012 Odyssey Starter
Hello, I think the starter on my 2012 Odyssey is dead. I find videos online for replacing starters on 2006 Odyssey's, but none for 2012. Is the location/process more or less the same?

Re: 2012 Odyssey Starter
Two days ago when I went to start the van, the engine didn't turn at all. Instead there was flickering of dash lights accompanied by clicking sounds. Subsequent tries gave a single click, no engine turn. All lights on the dash, as well as the headlights and interior lights were bright. All doors and windows continued to work as well, so I don't think it's the battery. I checked every fuse, all good. I followed some procedure to reset the security system, still nothing. Tried cranking the engine a few more times over the past two days, nothing. Just a click and dashboard lights flicker. Now all lights are fading and the battery is definitely dying. It feels like the starter to me but if you've got other suggestions, I'm all ears.

Re: 2012 Odyssey Starter
I would start with checking your charging system, battery included.
Autozone will check it for free.
Your battery should read 12.5 or so volts - engine not running. Does it?
With your engine running your voltage reading would be somewhere around 13.6 or above volts.
Good luck,
Sam

Re: 2012 Odyssey Starter
Checked the battery and it was reading 12.47V with the engine off, so I went ahead and put in a new starter. Fires up no problem! And to answer my original question, no, the starter on 2012 Odyssey is not in the same place as the '06 If anyone has questions about replacing the starter on the 2011+ Odyssey, shoot me a PM and I'll see if I can help - Been there, done that!

Re: 2012 Odyssey Starter
My wife has a 2005 Odyssey and have since replaced the starter roughly 6-7x. After having the Honda dealership replace the first 2-3, I decided to do it myself.
The main thing is;
- Having the proper tools, with ratchet extension and get a flash light to identify all the bolts to be removed.
- Take out any necessary parts that will get in your way, such as air filter intake.
- You can repair the starter from the bottom or top, I prefer from top, under the hood.
- Some starters have 2 bolts others, pending on the year have 3, but it's all straight forward.
- Take your time; get a battery from a reputable parts supplier, and you'll save 40%-50%, easily, over having mechanic or dealer do it.
- I'll have a video up on fixing those retractable back passenger doors.
