I have heard a lot of good things about speedfactory... Who is the person to see there? And is it true they specialize in tuning single turbos?

Oh you don't know james? he's the tuner there. He tuned my car (numbers in my sig) and he's got the sohc vitara hp record at over 600whp, as well as one of the fastest sohc street car et's at a 10.45 i believe. He tuned Kevin's car which is there shop car and its run a best et of 9.20 and best trap of 173mph. I've had alot of guys tune my car in the past 5 years and he's the best one I've had.

And just to show that I'm not totally biased, theres also Rich @fluid motorsports and facetuned, all of which are in the tacoma area.

haha hey man, not everyone starts there boost projects making 600+ like some of the guys you see on ht. We all gotta start some where. And some of us (like me haha) blow many many motors learning rights n wrongs. And unfortunately 7 years ago, there wasn't this kind of info n knowledge out there like we have now, or the ease of tuning.

Although speedfactory charges outrageous prices for some things they are ridiculously knowledgeable guys.

i remember tuning on a vafc with fish tank check valves to bleed air from the map

but seriously for SOHC motors i would only go to 2 people. James at SF, and bisimoto. And im not just saying SF cause i know the guys

I (personally) wouldn't go much above 11.5:1, and I would top at 12:1. Just personal, but I'm sure someone who builds for a living will chime in.

i agree...12.0:1 is where id limit the compression on pump gas(unless you are talking e85)...just my 2cents

Yeah, you can tune for E85, or if you've got a little deeper pockets, tune for AVGas. E85 can be had at the Shell station on Pacific, next to Taco Time and Izzy's Piza. AVGas can be had at Glacier Aviation, which is at the Olympia Airport on Old HWY 99.

82mm? Type R? How are they Type R if they're not factory bore?

Just get some Crower 11.5:1 81mm ITR pistons.

you can buy the type r knock offs all over ebay for cheap, they are decent in quality and work well for na applications...id go 81.5 if i was you, just to leave room to rebore if you have any issues...or if you prefer, you can get oem pistons up to 81.25mm...

Would I be able to use the crower itr pistons with stock itr rods? thats my main concern, because a piston rod combo will be like 750 shipped (wiseco, eagle) and i'm not sure how much machine work is going to run me because i'll want to hone, portmatch, and hot tank the block and head. i have about $2800 to spend plus i wanted to get new mounts, master gasket set, injectors, bearings, pistons, rods, fuel pump, water pump, and a bigger throttle body.

since when does crower even make pistons? unless you are talking about the chinese crap bc sells...for a mild na setup stick with an oe style cast piston if budget is a concern...if i was you id look into an 89mm crank and a set of oe style b16 or itr pistons...the increase in stoke will help you out in the tq department...do you have cams currently?what about a valve job? are you still on a stock head? itr i assume...why do you want a new fuel pump? the stock si pump should have no issues keeping up with a mild na setup?...2800 should be sufficent for a decent setup,if you buy the right parts...
