Default Need some HT help....

So I live in Canada but my son lives in Hayward. Well his 96 Civic engine just took a crap on him. He took it to a friends shop and they're quoting him $2500 to replace the engine. Now I think that's a bit high for a rebuilt engine. So I wanted to know if anyone in the area could recommend a place where my son could take his car to get fixed without getting gouged.

I think it shouldn't cost more than $1750 but maybe I'm wrong....Any help would be greatly appreciated.

he can go on craigslist and buy a sohc motor for a dime a dozen. He can buy a replacement motor for couple hundred, and get it installed for around $500. Id say no more then $1200 at most. But he has to shop around.
