Moving to NorCal, how do I get my car legal
I have a job opportunity in Redding starting this Fall, so I want to get my car ready to be CA legal over the summer.
I've heard that getting BAR'd is basically difficult right now since the ref funding has been cut, is that still the case?
What exactly is allowed? What are the rules?
I have a 93 VX hatch with a 94 LS swap in it, although I'm not set on that motor long term.
Can you do H22 and be legal? K-series? H2B?
If I get my LS swap BAR'd, and want to go LS-VTEC, is that allowed?
Is there anywhere that has a CURRENT list of what is and isn't legal and the status of getting swaps BAR'd? I want to keep my car legal.
Thanks in advance

Re: Moving to NorCal, how do I get my car legal
let met just get you the quick run around for CA BAR. basically if you want to bar a different motor other than your stock motor or stock jdm replacement motor then what you will need is a usdm motor to start off with. for instance if you want to go gsr you will need to have a usdm gsr motor to bar it. you can just bar a jdm motor right off the bat anymore. and no if you bar a ls swap you can not go lsvtec after that. h22 is legal as long as it's a usdm motor and yes k series is legal too but just too much money will need to be spent since you will have to change out your whole fuel system. if you got any questions just give me a pm. thanks and hope that help and also congrat on the job u got by why in redding out of all the places in cali? haha redding is all the way up there where nothings is alive haha.

Your motor can be bar legal but as long as you lower your car below 23" from headlight to ground measure it is the illegal height...congrat on your job.

Last time i was at the State Ref BAR.. only thing required was visual inspection (hoses all connected, NO CEL everything carb legal, same OBD motor / correct ECU *no chipped*) didn't have to go through the tailpipe sniffer...still should be the same.

22.5 is legal limit center of headlight(little square that should be on your headlight) to the ground or bottom of front bumper can not be lower then rim if you have the US engine your should be fine for reffing I herd its mostly visuals now

Thanks for the advice guys. Looks like it's not horrible, just need to make sure and get the correct setup from the start.
Has anyone BAR'd an H2B?
With how much mods are limited, I think I'm going to need a bigger motor than a stock GSR to get what I need out of my car.
