LED and watts
 

I'm thinking of replacing my high beam light with LED bulb, OEM plug and plan. Since I don't use my high beams, it will just be DRL.


Let's say OEM is 55watts. And the LED is 15watts, will that cause any issues because it's using less power, when the OEM is design to draw more?


I've not shop for LEDs yet, but just asking the question using this example. I don't know what the real wattage difference will be...

To equal the same brightness of a halogen, it takes between 1/5th to 1/4th the wattage with LED's.

That said, given the many different med (heat synced) and high (integrated fan) wattage LED bulbs that are out now... their focus tends to be very off.

So you'll get a lot of light, but the output wont be as wide/focused as the halogens they are meant to replace.


If you going for just a DRL bulb, something in the 10-15W range-per-bulb should do the trick. Just be careful to read all the details about them on the site you order from. Often times websites will list them with a combined wattage, or with a wattage that is the theoretical maximum the LEDs could run at (though they often run at a lower wattage for heat related reasons)
