Default Legit way to smog k series swap question

Hi I’m sure this may be covered someplace I been out the Honda game for 5 years now due to being in the g35 game. One thing I have learned along the way is where I used to think Honda parts were pricey from time to time, after building on my g it makes Honda building a lil easier then before.

Im wanting to get a eg hatch or ek not sure but I’m thinking of swap options let me first say I live in Cali so that’s probably the worst thing with my concern. I’m thinking and wanting a k series but my concern is is there a way to smog it legally I just see too many swapped cars with k series out here for it to be a huge issue.

Like me I said just trying to find out the deal now a days now that I’m wanting to get back into the Honda gang. K series seems to be the thing now, another option I think I have is registering the car in Nevada if that helps along with smog from what I hear it’s a lil easier but if I don’t have to do that I won’t.

any help would be appreciate from anyone here in Cali dealing with smog you can reply or dm me info.

Keep the cat intact with both O2 sensors and any EGR/intake systems stock or CARB legal, and take it to a tuner-friendly garage for inspections

thank you...last I was into it k series was a super huge cost and numbers were like 10-12 grand swapping and I’ve always had a concern about smog and making sure I can have legit paperwork and drive my car especially how much money I’m putting into swapping it. I just know Cali has some strict laws come refs and such and I don’t know after all the years if k series has been easier being done in Cali.

If you drag and drop all the electronics, sensors, and intake/exhaust from a newer car into an older chassis, it will pass like the newer car would. And if you do it well, chances are slim anyone who isn't into hondas would know if was a 20 year old car with a 5 year old engine.

CARB allows for newer engines to be swapped into older vehicles so long as ALL of the emissions from the newer engine are retained.

makes total sense I’m going to look into it all but I’m sure I’ll work it all out

K swaps in general have come down in price a lot too. Needing emissions will increase that, but I supposed you could pull it off for $5-$8k if you do all the work, depending on the engine and trans you get.

The hard part is going to be the addition of all emissions related components and wiring as well as creating a return-less fuel system. The thread referenced above has some insight on changing the tank... you will have a ton of work ahead of you OP, but it will be worth it.

Best way to go about it is to buy a lightly wrecked RSX and swap everything emissions related over that you need for the swap.

if you want a K id just buy a rsx-s after having done a kswap on my DA9...it would have been way cheaper. granted my car is plenty of fun for daily and track duty but with the cost i wouldnt do it again. just my opinion
