k24 vs k20.... LOOKS only
how hard, or easy is it to distinguish a k24 from a k20, based on looks alone, visual inspection. what are the determining features (obviously not including the plastic cover that says 2.4) and how could one disguise a k24 to pass as a k20? i don't mean honda techs either that would know every single little bitty thing, but just in general. asking for... myself, lol. thanks in advance!

Well the easiest way to tell them apart is too look right at the block stamp on the front of the engine where the transmission & block meet. As for trying to hide the fact that it is a k24, you would have to remove the lettering on the block & I can't remember if the k series blocks have a vin tag on them or not like the obd2 b series engines, other than that they look nearly identical unless you know what you are looking at and know what the casting stamps mean on various parts.
Obviously there are other small difference between them such as the accessories that attach to the block, intake, head, etc...

ahh right on. anybody ever gotten rid of the block stamp? call me crazy, but maybe a die grinder might do it. reckon the plastic cover that goes over the injectors interchange would be nice to get one of the vtec 2.0 and put on there as well. thanks for the heads up, i kind of assumed, and hoped that they looked pretty much the same, unless you were some sort of expert

Visually, they are both very similar. However, the engine code plate as described above does identify the engine as well as a VIN tag. A sharp track tech guy might know what the three digit block and head castings are, so you will want to remove them as well. Grinding them off without removing too much material is the best way. Using an intake manifold/fuel rail/injector set WITH a matching 2.0L plastic intake/fuel rail cover helps to support your cover story.
