Default k24/k20a reliablity

So I'm considering going K-series.. I just had two questions.. Ive had friends with Ls-Vtec, and B20/Vtec swaps and they were to just put it simply a pain... Always had problems with them. I was just wondering how reliable the new K-series Frankenstein motors are... Also I heard that the hood clearance with a k24 swap isn't all to great you just have to cut out some of the webbing under the hood, does this still apply with a k20a2 head on it. Thanks for the help.

The K24 and K20 heads are very very similar. Unlike the B series heads, there aren't any difference in the casting or physical design, hence why they bolt directly on with out any adapters or special fittings.

The reliability isn't going to change because you use all of Honda parts and as long as the head is installed properly, you shouldn't have any issues.

The Hood clearance is an issue with the K24 swap and not on the K20 because the K24 has a deck height of about 20mm (about 1") more than the K20. No matter what head you use, K20/K24 the cylinder head will sit higher.

You will need (for the K20 head swap):
K24 block (all bolt directly up EXCEPT K24A4)
K24 timing chain cover
K24 timing chain
K24 headgasket
K24 head studs

You can use all other parts from the K20.

Hope this helps.

what about the high revs? What should you switch gears at? The k20's redline or the k24's redline?

As long as you build it right the first time then you shouldn't have a problem.

Your friends that had LSVTECs and B20VTECs had problems that did not derive from the nature of the engine combination.

They had issues because they were incompetent machanics/engine builders.

My thoughts exactly, our beast is puttin' down numbers and we've never had a problem with any of our B20V builds... 3 for 3 so far...

lol, I dont doubt this at all... All Im saying is that I knew that the k24 and k20 heads could be interchanged a little easier.. Because the B-series I know you have to do a few small custom oil lines or something. (not sure how they build them so no flaming!) haha
