k24 drop in pistons
 

I'm looking at pistons for my k24/k20, not looking to bore out the cylinders if I don't have to. The cross hatching in the cylinder walls is still very visible. Just trying to see what kind of luck people have had with drop in pistons. Ex: oil consumption, noise and perfromance. Thanks in advance

Putting a set of fresh pistons and rings into ANY used bore is an extremely BAD idea. You still may be able to see the crosshatch, but it has to be freshly ground to be effective in lapping the rings in to generate the seal. You can't do it with one of those marble hones either, it has to be done with proper honing stones. So save yourself a lot of trouble, money, and time and have the block bored 1/2mm and honed properly so your engine won't burn oil forever and make some decent HP.
A lot of times cheap just doesn't work, and it'll end up costing you a lot more in the end because you'll have to do it all over again anyway.

Solid advice. Dropping a new set of pistons and rings in an old bore, even after using a ball or plateau brush hone, is just dirty! Dont get me wrong... if the situation warrants it, do it! But if your after performance and your doing this as an upgrade! Its not an option.
