Hey all - brand new to Hondas with my '97 Civic DX
Howdy. After nursing along an ugly '00 Echo for the last 5 years, I decided to throw in the towel after a cracked radiator (and gentle encouragement recently from my wife that I should move on anyway). That car was her parents' first brand new car, passed down to her and then to me as my first Japanese car. It served me for its last 5 years and 70k miles on a shoestring budget, and I'll miss the plucky little ugly duckling.
After a search which among other quirky or interesting cars included a Saab 9-3 and a Mazda6 V6/5-speed wagon, I checked out this 5-speed '97 DX coupe. It proved to be surprisingly clean and the price fair, so I took it home. Admittedly I've never cared for Hondas but after about 500 miles I am already kind of seeing the appeal. The car isn't perfect but it's not a bad little runner.
A bit about me: I'm a truck driver (or as I like to call it, a freight relocation engineer), so I drive 100 miles to work, park it in the Texas sun and weather for three weeks, and then drive home, so a beater is good for me. Among other things, I have owned a smattering of classic Mustangs, an SVT Focus, and a Dodge conversion van. Although I've been in Texas about a dozen years now, I'm originally from Northern California. I have two kids and enjoy good beer, oldies and chill out music, history, and long walks on the beach.
I look forward to getting to know you all, and absorbing your experience. Good day!
