z6 tranny, vtec head and mani on stock y7 block
have the chance to get a d16z6 with tranny for a good price, and im looking into putting it into my 98 DX hatch. i've done some research and asked around, and many people are saying to put the head, inakte mani and trans on the stock block for higher compression. but im also curious of what the stock z6 would do too.
second is wiring. i'll probably get flamed but if someone can make a suggestion on the above, they can NICELY state if ill need a vtec wiring harness or not, or if ill need any other spare odds and ends.
also, if anyone else has anything to say about d series in general (not 'get a b series', etc.) id appreciate it. thank you.
CLIFF NOTES:
100% z6 or z6 with stock block (intake mani, trans, vtec head, etc.)

Re: z6 tranny, vtec head and mani on stock y7 block (japearl)
if your asking what iit would do power wise with the head alone, if it is in good condioiton and put on right you will be able to beat y8's(ex's) and with the tranny you will be even if not beating 92-95 si's and ex's
and you will need a p2p or p28 ecu

its up to you what you want to do, whether you decided to use a full blown Z6 engine or hybrid your Y7 block with a Z6 head.
but as far as wiring goes, you have 2 options:
1) keep your existing DX wire harness and modify it to comply with the Z6 engine, ie. wire in VTEC and perform the IACV fix. or..
2) find a 96-98 EX 5speed engine harness and not worry about wiring a damn thing in. EX's have the golden child.
As for the ecu, you also have 2 options:
1) If you plan to use a full blown Z6 engine, you'll need to convert to OBD1 and use a P28 ecu because Z6's don't have a CKF sensor (integrated on oil pump), which all 96+ SOHC OBD2 engines have. Which brings us to option 2.
2) If you keep your Y7 block & run a Z6 head on it you can run a 96-98 EX ecu without problems, because you'll retain all of your OBD2 sensors (dual 02 & CKF mainly). You can still convert to OBD1 if you wish to too, if you go this route, but you cannot use a 96-98 EX ecu if you run a full blown Z6 engine (short block mainly). Also, you could look for a full blown Y8 engine as an additional option.
I guess this is the fork in the road where you decide if you want to go complete Z6 or hybrid your Y7.
