z6 in 96 coupe?

z6 in 96 coupe?
my friend has a 96 coupe and needs a y8 motor.it has a hole in the block,like many i have seen.the z6 is a better motor.i know the z6 is obd-1 and 96 is obd2.i can just use the z6 head and block and the rest of the ex stuff right?
anyone help on this????????

I'm not sure, but the distributor on the y8 head may need to be modified to fit on the Z6 head. I haven't tried to do it myself, but I've heard that all 3 bolts do not line up on the Y8 distributor when trying to put it on the Z6 motor, or vice versa. I don't think the Z6 motor has a crank fluctuation sensor like the Y8 does either. You can probably use the crank fluctuation sensor from the Y8, and any other sensors you need off of the block, and put them on the Z6 block. The crank fluctuation sensor can be found inside the timing belt cover close to the crank. The other stuff like manifolds, mounts, and transmission will bolt up.
good luck with the swap. I've been posed with this situation with my car and a friend's car. We've found D16Y8 motors for around 550 with around 30k miles here in TX.
