ive driven my bros 97 gti vr6, and i dogged most stock cars, just havent run into a hybrid run...yet.
i took si's in first, without hittin redline. its all torque off the line.

I think the corrado is lighter than most vr6 cars, but all those cars are heavy. Most good running hybrids should pull one.

Never had a problem disposing of GTi VR6s before in my hybrid - from a stop or on the highway. Not bragging, just stating my experiences. Too much power and lots less weight. The VR6 may have torque and a flat power curve, but it doesn't have the gearing and light weight to keep up - they are however MUCH nicer in terms of cruising and "autobahnning."
Now, let's be FAIR here and try this one:
How does your hybrid stack up against an A2 (older, LIGHTER Golf) with a VR6 or G60 swap? THAT is a better question to be fair, right?
I know a few ATL guys with some pimp-*** Volkswagons - there's a guy with an A2 with the total VR6 swap, and another guy who's got one with a rollcage and all - very nice shiit, and makes our swaps look like bolting on an intake.
Haven't ran either - one of the guys has the car corner-balanced and all - he doesn't "play" on the streets since it's a comp car to him.

VR6's are no competition for a B18C series hybrid period... I dont care if it's on the highway, from a start wherever. Honda hybrid versus VW Hybrid is more like it. Heres a vid of me stomping on my friends VR6 for your viewing pleasure.

I hate VR6's! Just the other day my friend raced one in his 96 hatch with a GSR. He has a CTR intake cam, intake, and header. That mother jumped him off the line and my friend still beat him by 3 cars. VR6's, and nothing is ever going to touch a HONDA top-end!!!!!!!!!

They have torque but are slow, ive seen the euro mags with vr6's in a2's that run 14.8's at best. im sure turbo ones can kill hybrids. THere was also an a1 thats stripped running ITBs and a fully built engine and all it could do was a 15.0

i raced a couple in my 95 prelude VTEC with minor mods and beat them. one of which i raced on the freeway. he kept up til about 110mph, after that he smiled for my big triangle tail-lights as i hit the rev limiter at 140mph+. he was way behind.
they are not slow though...

They can't touch my B18C1 EG hybrid. My car runs mid 14's on street tires. Most VR6 GTi's run low 15's.
Now...my friend's got a mid 90's Golf 4 dr (2.0L, 8 valves) and he installed a custom turbo kit himself. It runs mid 13's on slicks!!! That car would murder my hybrid.

The supercharged Corrado G60 in the lighter A2 chassis has some SERIOUS potential - boost upgrades are like water for them in terms of availability. PLUS that motor is much lighter than the VR6 mammoth beast.

My boy has a 93 VR6 Corrado SLC and we have good races. The biggest win I had was a car length. He beat me once when I mis shifted. I have a B18C1 in a 93 hatch.

Do you think honda kids know why the rest of the automotive community hates them? Relentless talking i'll bet. Considering the new body style GTI (A4) is bloated and terribly heavy, yet still manages a 15.3 in the quarter, this with the old 5 speed tranny that has since been replaced. Now how would dropping in the same engine, only fully built, with itb's into a car (a1, or a2) that weighs nearly HALF that, only gain a half second in the quarter? I guess if type r stickers add HP, then that equation makes sense too.
Also, to clear things up for you guys, the corrado isn't much heavier or lighter than the A3 Golf/GTI from which it is based, the secret is the 3.67 final drive, instead of 3.39.

Re: Your hyrbid vs. VR6's??? (DA tegger)
Hey DA Tegger, did you think my comments were out of line? I actually pointed it out that comparing a STOCK VW VR6 in the heavy-*** bodies to a HYBRID is not fair.
I'm not some blind moron who is totally religous about Hondas and ONLY Hondas - jeez, read the "Looks like Honda has some Competition" topic and you'll see my logic about all this car and how it pertains to Honda.
I know a few A2 VR6 hybrids around, and I know for a FACT that one of the guys is pissed because even his VR6 A2 doesn't run with the B-series hatches like he wants it to.. So for that, he's got a Quafi 6 speed and he will be boosting the **** oput of it This does NOT mean that ALL A2 VR6 hybrids are slow, but I am speaking from an actual experience from a guy I know.
Lets also talk about PRICE. How much does a complete VR6 swap go for? Come on, since you probably know more than I do about VWs please let me know. I'm sure it's well over the $3,500 average price of the GS-R swaps up for sale.
I have not disrespected any other makes/models in my time here - a LOT of other manufacturers make bad-*** cars with hella potential.
BUT, there are plenty of die-hard Honda nuts that run at the mouth about how Hondas fuucking rule the world, and they will not accept when Honda is outdone by another manufacturer ot tuner. THOSE guys can make us all look like shiitheads.

Re: Your hyrbid vs. VR6's??? (B18C5-EH2)
my main concern, was either getting a a3 git vr6 or a b series civic.
just wanted to see how the competition would be.
seems like the hybrid runs quicker.
my other main concern was the reliability. my brother is on his second vr6, thinking that his first vr6 was a lemon, but it turns out its just a vw.
can't spend the money on bosch parts for just regular maintenance.

Re: Your hyrbid vs. VR6's??? (racer4200)
I have actually had the honor of owning a A2VR6 (a lighter version gti) with very little mods, chip and filter and have ran a best of 14.2 on poo pooy nittos tires with with leaky head gasket, I was going to do serious work on it but my friend blew the poo poo up, so I now bought a 92 civic hatch and am waiting to get a type r motor for it! I have raced many of civic hatches and beaten many and they can stay up with the best vr hybrids out there! Some motors are just weak and some are strong, but I still like the idea of having a car that you can rev up close to 9000 instead of 6800, so now I choose honda! So I'm hoping that I will be more impressed with this vtec swap than my old vr6 swap! I got to get a type r motor soon or I'm going to go DoEs AnYoNe KnOw WheRe I CaN GeT SoMe StRObE LiTEZ AnD LiGhT uP WiNdShiElD NoZzLeS??ing crazy! Its a huge step back going from fast *** VR6 swap to stock *** civic hatch DX!
