Basically yes. If you use a 96-98 P2P ECU you're going to have to convert to a 4 wire ECU. Is your car a 5 speed or auto?

I'm about to do something similar. From everything I've read you use the ecu that matches the head, along with the timing belt that matches the head. I'm still learning too tho so..

The heads are pretty much the same, the differences are on the inside where the Y5 has a different cam profile as well as roller rockers. The ECUs are different too, so I'd run the ECU out of the Y8 if I were you.

What would happen if I was to run the y5 ecu? I'm just wondering

The Y5 ECU looks for two vtec solenoids. It wouldn't work correctly.

Wrong ^ the y5 only has one vtec sol. The vtec kick in rpm is lower using the y5 ecu and since it has the "wild" rocker, vtec wouldn't run right either.

You're probably thinking of the d15b 3 stage vtec, the p2j ecu's. But no the y5 only looks for one solenoid and kicks in around at a low rpm, its just vtec-e.

Not going to run right, you will probably need to convert the hx harness to accept a 4 pin o2 sensor.

https://honda-tech.com/forums/showpo...9&postcount=13 Here is all you need. I would also use intake exhaust and tranny I mean I would sell it and buy an ex you might make some money doing it. You'd definitely save some guarantee that.
