any stock honda muffler is 'too' restrictive.
if you want a quiet exhaust system, yet performs well, run a couple straight through style resonators (ones without the little internal gills).

I'm looking for OEM factory-like quiet. Has anyone every run an H22 through a stock civic exhaust? even just for a short time?

also, I'm fine with giving up a few horsepower, I just don't want to run like crap

it shouldn't run like crap if you run a stock exhaust system or muffler, but you definitely are witholding more than a 'few' ponies with a stock muffler and/or exhaust system.
I'm sure a handful of people on this forum w/H22 civic swaps have ran stock exhaust/muffler setups too.
