would this ecu work for my set up? ls/vtec

Hey there, im having some ecu questions.

I will be having a ls vtec and i was wondering would a JDM Pr3 obd1 ecu work for my application?

B18b
R pistons (compression should be about 11.3)
b16a2 head

so basically
1)would a pr3 jdm obd1 ecu work for this? would it run fine? or would it bog and run like crap(i've heard lotsa stuff about this)

2)i have an auto ls ecu right now, should i just make this a manual ecu, and run a vafc?

3)keep the ls ecu, ghetto rig a switch to activate vtec, and save up for hondata?

by the way, this is a 94 2 door integra. so everything is like obdI.
thanks everybody, and by the way happy holidays.

PR3 is a pre obd ecu and will not plug in. You need an obd1 p30 or P72 depending on which head you choose. You can also use a chipped P28 which would probally work best

im buying one, and the guy says its obd1 the jdm pr3...
so if i cna't get ahold of an obd1 vtec ecu, how can i ghetto rig to get vtec to work?

1 yes you can run a OBDI PR3 ECU without a problem it nothing more then USDM P30/P61 looking ecu. works very well. if you require more fuel you can always chip it.

2 even if you chip it, and run with a VAFC its not going to be as good as above combo, of course unless you tune it one dyno.

3 not really great idea as you will require higher rev limit, and much more aggressive fuel maps and ignition maps

or you can buy a chipped P28/P08/P91

ah okay thanks for the response! i heard that certain ecus are designed to run with certain gas... is this true? (ie ABC ecu - should run 94 octane etc)

What do you mean??? ECU's that use plug A,B,C?? If that's what you mean that's a bunch of bullshit so don't believe it.... I would recommend a OBD1 P30 or chipped P28... Just don't put a stock GSR (P72) computer on it... That ECU sucks ass with the IAB control and the VTEC X-over is too low.. Latez

oops.. i made that conusing..
what i meant was.. is there certain ecus that require certain gas?
i heard jdm ecus require better quality gas. is this true?

by the way, wut is a p28?

Japan has a higher Octane than North America.

P28 is a 5G Civic ECU that runs the SOHC VTEC. That's why it needs to be chipped to run a DOHC program.

Hoper I helped.

Also if you come across the P06 (02D01720-1500 or the 02D011F0-1500), then you have the same board as a P28 without the stock VTEC programming... It's a perfect candidate for for converting to DOHC VTEC.... Just another ECU to think about... Latez

Re: would this ecu work for my set up? ls/vtec (JDMspecEG6)

how much is it to convert theses ecus to dohc vtec?
i dunno if htis is a good thing because don't hondata require stock unmodified ecu's? i want to leave my options open.

so options are the
p06 (what ecu is this?
p28 (5th gen civic sohc)
pr3 (obd1 jdm spec)

You can still run a chipped P28 with DOHC VTEC parameters and Hondata... Most people can chip these boards fairly easy... You could talk to Katman or Kenji, they are very knowledgable on ECU's... I can do it also but i normally just do it for friend's laterz.. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

Also the P06 comes from the 92-95 DX, running the D15B... It is basically the same board as a P28 but without VTEC parameters

hmmmm hehe do you wanna be my friend?

where do you guys learn to do this chipping stuff? is it easy? what do you need to do? I might try it, if i can get ahold of one of htese ecus for cheap...

chipping the ecu requires a chip burrner and the chip beds ect. costly setup so just purchase a p28 with a mugen spoon or other programm and be done with it.

hmmm would a eprom chip burner work? is it hard to do this (like burn the info and what not?)

other then EPROM burner, you need a skill with a soldering iron, and have all the necessary parts. is it worth it for one time thing? it depends, on you.

aiites, i think im going to be set on using the jdm pr3 obd1. if there are objections or im making a big mistake, someone stop me soon! hehe thanks and happy new years

jdm ecus can work with hondata right?
