Default wiring 2001 B18B1 CKF (3 wire) to 1997 D16Y7 harness (2 pin) ignore black wire?

Alllmost done my B18B1 swap into my 97 hatch. Just want to double check here...

The engine I have is from a 2001 integra, and has a 3 wire CKF (crankshaft speed fluctuation sensor) and connector... But my Y7 harness (which is MOSTLY plug and play), has a 2 wire connector.

Both connectors have yellow wire and a green wire, but the 2001 B18 has a third wire (black? brown? maybe a thin white stripe? not sure.).

I have to extend the B18 CKF plug wires anyway, so my thought was to chop off that 3 wrie plug, splice into the Y7 plug with only the yellow wire and green wire, and simply disregard the black.

Will this work? My guess is the black wire is a ground wire and was added as an "improvement" on the earlier sensors?

Any help here is appreciated.

Ah, my initial question was full of fail. Even the question has a mistake. "3 wire, 2 pin?"

To clarify:
2001 B18B1 OBD2B has a 2 wire CKF and 2 pin connector. (blue and white)
1997 D16Y7 OBD2A has a 3 wire CKF and 3 pin connector. (blue, white and black)

I used the connectors from the Y7, and disregarded the black wire on the B18 side. I have no idea if this will work, though my research looks positive, I can't find a clear answer. If it doesn't work, I'll just do the "CKF trick"...

It is clear the black wire is a ground wire, but I just don't know if it will work without it. As I understand it, the 3 wire CKF's have an internal ground, and the 2 wires don't. I just don't understand if this effects the ECU signal or not.

And, finally found the solution here. I've been intimidated to look at pinout diagrams, but once I started looking it got easier to find the answers and understand what was going on. This also explained the IACV problem a little better, but it's an easy fix.

"If re-using a CX or DX engine harness, the CKP (crank sensor) has one too many wires for this specific sensor (3 total). Any U.S. 96+/OBD2 DOHC engine has a 2-wire CKP sensor. Simply color match the wires up from the DOHC CKP sensor and leave the 3rd wire disconnected."

I had been cutting and splicing wires, but HondaPartsHero has a better idea here. (depinning connectors)
