Why can't I check my CEL's?
When I check them.....it doesn't give me anything.
But I'm bound to be throwing some since I don't have the IABs, or the EGR system hooked up yet.
Am I doing something wrong?
I read that it's supposed to be a blue plug by the glove box, inside a green rubber cover.
Well, I've got a green rubber cover..but i've got two different plugs in it, and neither one of them are blue.
So I tried it with both of them...and nothing.
Maybe I'm just a moron?

Does the one plug have 2 wires and the other 3 wires. If so use the 2 wire plug and jump the wires. Also, do it while the car is running. Some codes will only read when the car is running.

Was your CEL on while the motor was running?
IAB doesn't throw a codes, and EGR doesn't throw a code unless you're driving up a hill
let me know

Yep, CEL is on while car is running/driving.
Both of the plugs have only two wires.
One plug has solid light blue, and then green/white. The other plug has solid brown, and then green/white.
Which one should it be?

hmmm...well, I did it again.
It still isn't showing me anything.
But I've got CEL's while driving.
WTF am I going to do? I can't pass emissions with a CEL, but if it's not giving me any codes how am I to fix it?

And you have a paperclip bent into a U shape with one end plugged into the brown wire pinout and othe other into the green/wht pinout?
Plug that in, then put the car onto the ON switch, and it should blink.

No he said he is throwing codes while driving.
Funny thing is I am having the same problem, I cant pull my codes either on my h22 wierd stuff. Hopefully someone can help both of us. So it goes

We all make mistakes, so do you know why the codes cant be pulled, cuz I am having the same issue here.

ive heard of that problem before but have never seen a way around it
the ecu *SHOULD* store the codes
just reset the ecu everytime it wont store the code.
the only thing it dosent store that i know of are "random misfires"

man this is frustrating
I've gotta get my car inspected soon, but it won't pass at all if the CEL is on!

Yeah I dont know either man, Ive tried with the car running and with the car off and still couldnt pull codes. The light would just go out instead of blink.

Re: Why can't I check my CEL's? (junglerunna02)
yeah that's exactly what it's doing! It just goes out...it's on for about 2 seconds (while the other dummy lights come on), then just off (along with the other dummy lights) and nothing.
Is there anyway I can keep the CEL from coming on?
The new law here is that if you've got a CEL on, you don't pass...period. But I've gotta get this thing passed so I can have a ride!

There is def a way to just unplug the cel for time being so you can pass inspection. I remember reading it somehwere but dont remember how to do it.

Re: Why can't I check my CEL's? (junglerunna02)
okay, so I finally got it!
For some reason the FIVE different paperclips I was using wouldn't work...so I tried a piece of wire (which I guess I should have done in the 1st place)
I got 36 and 41.
Apparently 36 isn't a code....but I've checked, double checked, and even had my brother check.
Anybody know?

So you got it to work with a piece of wire you say, I have yet to try it hopefully that will work. I dont know what to tell you about code 36 Ill check my helms later if you want.

Re: Why can't I check my CEL's? (junglerunna02)
yeah...the elusive code 36.
I was told it's only on 4ws JDM P13 ECU's...it was a traction control system, only on the 4plug ECU.
Problem with that though, is I just read about a guy that threw it on a USDM B17 swap, and several others doing b16 swaps.
I was also told that it's a 'ghost code', and won't throw a CEL. That it only shows up when you're checking for codes.
I can't find anything for sure on it.
