who here has LS/VTEC head bolts stripped before?
seems like every time I remove the head off a LS/VTEC the head bolts strip. No matter if its ARP or OEM. What is it about LS/VTEC motors!!!!????!!??

ya it happens. If the threads are gone and dont hold the bolts anymore,
We provide a service by RS Machine, which redoes the threads and upgrades the head bolts to a diff. size. dont count that block as Junk, we can fix it and provide the head bolts as well to get this block back together.
Also Heli-coil wont work that well either. feel free to contact us by phone or email if you have any questions.

Yeah I had it happen when assembling the motor for the first time. I just used a heli-coil and fixed it up...never had problems after that.

when you first assembled the motor, did you use oil on the threads before bolting them in? the oil acts like an antisieze, and it helps you get acurate torque readings.

some where oiled... some where not. But all of them stripped. ( 5 motors in all)
I wonder why?

alot of ppl fail to use the b18c head bolts/studs, they use the ls/b16 ones thinking they will work, but they wont cuz they are too short

I used b16 bolts on mine: ls/b16head and they work fine with 8.5krpms and high compression-11.3:1
but the b18 bolts are safer because the force on the bolts are pretty harsh. It can be the reason your bolts stripped because of the forces put on the threads.

the good procedure is to use new gsr bolts with 5/30 oil ... i've done countless ls/vtecs never really had any strip on me.

true, but how does that cause the stripping?
I would believe it has to do with the thread engagement difference between the two bolts. More thread engagement displaces the fastener loading over more threads. Same loading over less threads....each thread would see more force...more possible to shear.

those are all fixable.. give us a call. RS has a head bolt repair kit for that and includes the head bolts already.
