i drove mine for the first time today..... no vtec......and it beat my friends ls w/aem cai,tanabe super racing medalion and greddy header


i have a jdm b20b w/ cheap short ram /dc header 4-1/same exhaust he has/ and a high flo cat

anyhow i have heard people say not all jdm b20bs are the high compression.....where can we find out the truth????????

put togeather all the b20 stuff, the b20z has a 9ish:1 the b20a has 8ish:1
so if its wrong blame cspeed racing not me!

yea there is the vtec heads (gsr, b16) and B18A/B - B20B/Z

the block stamp should be below the engine clasification like: B20B then 1160416

a lot of people say the JDM B20B is same as B20Z but no-one can provide any reasons why they say this.

Ok if you have the b20b non-vtec your compression is 8.8:1 that is straight out of the summer 2001 issue of honda tuning( the one with all the specs on hondas jdm or usa) I hope that helps some.

The JDM B20s all had the same pistons. These are the higher compression pistons that are found in the US B20z. I'm pretty sure your compression is the same, 9.6:1.

well, i've been researching this question for some time now and to my frustration i can't get consistant answers either. I could note that most people say that most absolutely definately ALL the jap b20b's are all the 9.6 cr pistons, and others say definately absolutely not, and i could list all the b20b specs from the jap honda site, but that would introduce even more anomalies and mess this mess up more messily. So i won't say anything; maybe i won't bother even posting this.

When I was looking for my b20, I was sure I wanted the b20z because of the higher compression. What I found out from the shop that I finally got my b20 was that there is no JDM B20Z. They only have b20b's. They all have the same pistons, so they should all have the same compression right? But then I remember that the head on the 99-00 b20's are different then the head on the 97-98. I think this might be the cause of the different compression ratios.

are you certain that you don't mean the "Intake manifold" was different??

Did the shop tell you that all the jdm b20b's all have the same pistons or was it an assumpion. Jap does forsure only have the b20b's but the issue here is that it appears some have the high comp. and others have the low comp. pistons with no apparent external way to tell the diff.

in all my experience i would be inclined to say no,

and blame crvtec for any mis-understanding.

Don't know tinkerbell. I would like to say that honda wouldn't mess around on the b20b on us and not tell us, but the evidence is piling up. Unless there's a lot of people out there telling lies about there swaps and faking pictures...(not to mention all the crazy numbers on the jap honda site about this engine)

Weirder things have happened. My cousin lived in jap for two years and she used to tell me incredulous stories of weird customs and rules (or lack of) that they followed there. (not to knock them or anything, but i wouldn't put anything by them over there)

I'm still trying to understand why in jap they supposedly have to pull their engines at 60 000kms for emmissions reasons. The engine is hardly broken in in my book. Surly there's a cheaper and more reasonable way to drive clean. But then i got that info from the internet too, so who knows what's true.

This was in a '99 JDM B20B my friend picked up. P3F are the 8.8:1 pistons. The engine was stamped '99, even had an LS intake manifold.

STOP repeating that all JDM b20b's are 9.6:1.
