Where did you mount your aftermarket tach? Got pics?
Hey Guys:
I can't be the only one out there with a 92-95 Civic that came with no tach from the factory. I was thinking of getting the autometer deal with the shift light, but I can't figure out a good place to mount the damn thing.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Steve

Get a EX guage cluster
Plug and play, and they look a hell of alot better than a damn "Monster Tach"

Are the hookups in the CX harness going to run that tach properly, or would there be a ton of extra wiring involved?
Thanks

All the models have the same wiring harnesses however, they just don't have a guage that connects to them.
There has been a recent topic about this in the Civic section......https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=121107

I used to have a 5" Autometer Sport comp tach mounted to my a-pillar. It was easy to install but I wanted something less noticable. I ended up buying an SI cluster from a 95 civic. It was plug and play. The CX is prewired for a tach. If you wanna check, take out your cluster and look for a blue wire on the left plug. BTW, my monster tach is for sale. Email me if interested. Godd luck.

I have a question that goes along with this. I have an 88 crx hf, and I am putting a b18c into it. I plan on putting in a chipped p28 ecu, so my RPM's will be a lot higher than stock. Do you know if there is a cluster I would be able to use for my application? Or am I going to have to use an aftermarket tahc? Thanks guys.

so since you are going to use a chipped p28, are you going to convert your car to OBD-1 specs?

Do what Initial says, as far as the clusters, I would start thinking of researching gsr clusters into rex's. You can find the wiring schematics on this site.

My friend had the cluster like the one pictured in Mista bone's reply. I hate it because it puts your eyes too far out of the place where you should be looking - straight ahead.
For the 1992-1995 Civics, I think the EX/Si cluster is the best. Goes to 9000rpms and is not noticable.
For CRXs and 1988-1991 Civics there are JDM and Euro-Spec tachs that go to 8000 - I even saw an O.e piece that went to 9000, but I don't remember where.
I just don't like aftermarket tachs becuase it draws too much attention to the car - sometimes the wrong kind of attention.

Re: Where did you mount your aftermarket tach? Got pics? (LXguy)
(92 vx hatch/b16)when i installed my monster tach i found a big difference between the two. my stock tach was way off. from 0-3000 rpm my stock was off about 500 rpm. after 3000 it would rise much faster until vtec. then slow down again. not very safe if you really run your car to the max. it might not look good but it does help. 200-300 rpm's can make a big difference in a race. you could use your stock tach for everyday driving but when you race you might want to get a shift light. more places to mount and more accurate and safer than looking down at your tach.

That lag is something I have experienced in Mustangs as well. the factory tach is not good at all.
That dash pod is kind of neat. In stoplight to stoplight racing, and drag racing, the shift light is clearly visible out of the corner of your eye, and you don't really have to look down at the tach, so I don't think the angle would be too much of a big deal for me.
That Si cluster is about a hundred times cooler looking than the stock cluster in my EX. I'm getting that either way.

Use the damn 99-00 SI cluster and if you want a shift light get just a shift light and mount it on the floor pointing up.......no rice and your still gonna know when to shift there bright as hell.
