Re: whats fastest (tjtice)
i'm guessing you want to stay all motor and not do too much to the engine since you didnt mention much about it, so i'd say ITR.

oooooook.
first.
how much do you have to spend
if you say i have 20,000$ to spend. fully built ITR. etc etc etc etc. you could blow that 20k in no time
but if your like normal people you have a budget. if your planning to stay NA you should probably go for a gsr or a b20. if you want turbo (like myself) b16 or b18 motor.
it just depends.
this is your best friend https://honda-tech.com/zerosearch
use it. alot.

Re: whats fastest (tjtice)
why are you guys forgetting the H22A????
dragging and everyday driving he said, no autox or road racing... H22A is the best bang for the buck. but i'd rather get B18C1 and turbo charge it.

Re: whats fastest (DragonCTR69)
i'm gonna have to dissagree dragon....
H22 is not too heavy for daily driving. a couple of my friends have H22 civics, and i drove them many times. it rides just fine (especially uphill ). have you ever driven a civic with an H22? if not, then you should. you'll see that it's not bad at all.
torque is awesome and ground clearance is not problem either.
and 150lb-ft of torque from an ITR??? maybe highly moded. stock it comes with under 130lb as fas as i know.
5-6K for a B16B or B18C5 is worth it if you're not planning on doing anything else to it or going all motor.
here is the deal though, the FASTEST hands down (what you want, right?) for least money would be the USDM B18C1 GSR turbo! or all motor route CRV/VTEC.
period.
if you were given $8K and had a choice of any B series, any H series, any D series motor. with those you can buy a B18C5 and have less than 3K left fror mods.
you can get a B16B and have the same thing. you can build a hella quick CRV/VTEC or LS/VTEC (12's all motor all day, full interior), OR you can get a B18C1 and have 5k left for mods, which gives you an option of turbocharging this motor and some money left. with that money you can build the motor somewhat or add a little more and boost the hell out of it (good for 11's).
you can also get an H22A and turbocharge that but it would be a little too uncivilized for daily driving. H22A all motor however would be very nice.
if your down-the-line-goal is to make your car as fast it can go but spending the least money possible your #1 choice is B18C1 GSR!!! period.
if you don't wanna go ***** out, H22A is fine. so its basically up to you.
H22A all motor
B18C5 all motor
B16B all motor
B17
B16A
CRV/VTEC
B18C1 all motor
B18C1 turbo

Re: whats fastest (DragonCTR69)
Sorry Dragon, but the B18C5 is NOT rated at 150lb/ft. of torque! Where are you getting those specs from? You're usually on point with your stats, but that is dead wrong.
Flywheel rating for the B18C5/B18C (JDM ITR) motors is like 128lb/ft.

Re: whats fastest (johnd)
There are several posts on the H22 breaking axles.
It would be a good drag car since it would put most of the weight up front.

Re: whats fastest (HaUTSaauce)
All weaksauce,
Cut the rear end off, tube chassis that biach and put a NSX engine in it.
Look, not to be a complete D*CK, but this topic has been covered 144137574515642342164831 times before. Go do a search, then narrow down your choices.
Seriously, there's too many cooks and the kitchen is too small.
Go research H22, B18C, CRVTEC, LSVTEC, Turbo, and All motor.
The bottom line comes down to: HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU WANT TO SPEND? AND HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO?
Once you're able to answer that, well, half the battle is over.

Re: whats fastest (DragonCTR69)
No I didn't say the B18c5 was rated at 150lb-ft torque
The B18C 98 Spec R is rated at 19.0Kgm.... I converted this spec...
Perhaps I used the wrong conversion... but here is the Specs and you can convert them to American Standars yourself...
I asked Jeeves and I got 0.425kg per pound... I and 3.334 ft in a meter If this is incorrect then please tell us the correct values... Please don't give me some Specs you found on some web page cuase they are commonly wrong...
I have gotten this Spec from three diffrent sources including the Vtec tunning Bible...
the Specs are 18.5 Kgm @7200 for 96 spec and 19.0kgm @6200 for the 98 Spec...
Besides the Car we tested (same setup I am building puts down 210 and 150lb-ft
The results were in Lb-ft and not Kgm So these are correct...
I prefer not to convert SPecs but since most of you don't care about kgm then I must....

You can edit it out if you'd like, but I saw where you said that it was not only rated from Honda at 150lb/ft, but that you could easily mod it to overcome the driveline loss and put you at 150lb/ft. of torque to the wheels!
I call total BS on getting a 1.8L B18C5/B18C (JDM R) motor to 150lb/ft. of torque to the WHEELS.
NO WAY
I know a guy with a FULLY BUILT 2.0L bored out B18C5 that doesn't even push 140lb/ft. of torque. He is NAB20C5 on the message board here. He has 12.5:1 CR and like I said 2.0L and it's nowhere NEAR 150lb/ft. of torque.
My B18C5 laid down 123lb/ft. of torque and it's stock internally. That decent, but there's no way in HELL to get 27 more lb/ft. of torque out of it IMO.
Good B20/VTECs average 140's in torque last time I checked. Sorry, but 1.8L and 150lb/ft. don't make sense.
[Modified by B18C5-EH2, 4:07 AM 2/1/2002]
As for my 150 lb-ft torque ITR... Well it is a reality... Not so heavily modded...
the Stock engine is rated at 150lb'ft at the Flywheel...Just had to mod it a bit to regain the Torque lost to the tranny....

Re: whats fastest (DragonCTR69)
As usual you will sit here and write a damn novel. Look, you said the ITR motor was an EASY 150lb/ft. or torque - you're WRONG. It *might* be possible, but come on man, we're talking limited budgets and sutff, not some ultra-built and tuned motor from Japan.
280 WHEEL horsepower all-motor from a 2.0L Type R motor? Highly doubtful.
Are you serious? The god damn Type R motors are rated at no more than 130lb/ft. of torque - I could care less what some books you're reading say!

Re: whats fastest (B18C5-EH2)
if you just wanna hold your own and have a cheap decent swap i would just get a gsr motor. Its cheap, reliable, and decently quick.
