I is a block heater. We all have them up here in North Dakota. You plug it in when your done driving and it keeps the water in the block warm for when you start it up the next day. You would be suprised what neg60 can do to ya motor

Its a stock option on hondas sold in colder climates. Thats why that hole is threaded. Where most cars have the block heater inserted in a push out freeze plug location.

I've heard of them and new that that was an option but never seen one on a block until now. Pretty cool.

Looks to me like you have a big automotive tapeworm. (Ever wonder where the term "parasitic losses" came from? Now you know!)

"it looks like an autometer water temp sender, and it was adapted to fit into the block's coolant drain plug ... "
LOL good guess, and a good idea now that you thing I think about it. IF you live up north (north dakota) All the cars have plugs haning out from the grill or front end. and most parking lots have wall outlets on poles so you can plug your car in while at work. That way its less stress on the starter and the battery when it starts pluss the cars water is warm so it does not take long for it to heat up. All us turbo guys up here have to pull them off our ride as it gets in the way of the compressor.

all honda models have it available. On the accords the water plug is on the back of the block. above the oil filter i think.
