What motor to put in 90-93 LS?
Im trying to buy my friends 90-93 LS Integra for $400. It doesn't run but I'm going to swap motors and Im deciding which motor I should get. At first I was thinking cheap and getting a B-16 but to me that seems like a downgrade going from a 1.8 to a 1.6. I doubt the car will be much faster w/ the B-16 so I was thinking of getting a GSR. H motors online has the GSR motor for $1800. Also my friend, who just got a deal w/ Japanstar, can get me a complete JDM ITR for $3800 w/ engine, ECU and trans w/ LSD so I was thinking of selling the ECU and trans (which I hear I can get like $1500 for) and end up paying about $2300 on the motor. I think spending $500 more for a Type R over a GSR would be worth it. The swap is being done for free cause Im giving my friend the LS that is in the car now and we are also changing the water pump, timing belt and headgasket. Im not sure what trans I should use and I dont want to change to hydraulic. This is a cheap simple project Im not trying to dump $ into but I figured I should start off w/ a good engine so I dont need to mod it much to get it fast. I'm guessing Ill spend abouit $4g's total on the car, motor, 60K parts, intake, header, Vtec controller, 2 1/2" exhaust w/ stock muffler and suspension (maybe close to $5G's if I have to change the trans). Im trying to keep the outside bone stock and save the rest of my money for a new car when i graduate. FYI, I believe the teg is OBD0. What ECU should I use w/ the type R or GSR if I get that instead? Also should I just change the gears in the LS trans or get a different trans? If so what trans for relatively cheap? Long gears in the LS wont do me anygood unless I went turbo, which Im not going to do anytime soon. Thanks in advance and be gentle, I'm a Honda noob.
