What cool N/A hybrids can One make w/ a b17a motor, I got one within my grasp for cheap!!!
I bought the motor! MY GOAL is NORMAL Aspiration
Was considering B20vtec w/ b17a crank... But it is very involved... Id like a B18c1..if anyone wants my b17a crank and block..But If I am keeping the b17a, it will need boring and honing.. Sleeving is too expen$ive for me!
W/ the oversized ctr pistons.. and type r cams.. it should be pretty fast!

go ctr pistons and head work, keep the b17 block. dont ruin two blocks to make one. keep it 1.7 and use ctr pistons, have a 11.4:1 compression. And yes, the itr manifold will bolt up to the b17 head, good choice.

did you even bother to read the WHOLE sentence?
41 hp gained on NA - do you smoke crack ?

t paying attention to my key phrase "normal aspirated" and I also Want to stay oem completely internal
Also I can get a b17a block and head w/ manifolds for around 450. so Therefore I don't want to buy a b18 for 3,300

yep 41 hp w/ a big
turbo..maybe. ?
having a
motor w/ all Oem internals is cool. That way when you beat a
Cocky V8 driver, You can truthfully say its a stock honda N/A
motor!!!! Just for an extra slap in his arrogant face "wappaaa!"

yep 41 hp w/ a big
turbo..maybe. but wth ... I can only be so clear. But CTR
slugs sound good. w/ ctr cams. >11.4:1 huh. Is that an
"exact" figure. or rumored? thats nice. Do you think I would
need to upgrade my injectors, fuel pressure regulator, pump,
and get an apex vfac. to balance it all out? would JDM ITR
pistons give me a lil lower? to run on 93 w/ no problems?

How Involved is the Hybrid w/ B17a 's Crank into the B20B (Jdm vtec b20?)???
It would seem that this setup would give ample Torque, midrange, and high rpm power due to its rod ratio. A b20 peaks lower than an ITR or CTR. So by destroking it, one can have the best of both worlds. Has anyone out there done this w/ the Jdm vtec b20 block before...How dificult? If it is a pain in the kiester and tons of $$$ I will just bore my b17a or swap for a b18c1 if someone will trade me?

SpoonFanatic , the benefit of the B17A crank in the B18A/B-B28B/Z is that with custom slightly longer rods and relocated piston pins in a B20 block you can get a 1.*L witha 1.74 or 1.76 rod ratio or something like that, with LS rods and PR3 pistons your just under stock deck clearance at TDC. This is a great swap witha flat torque curve that is perfect for road racing, is it a real world street motor? No Worth the time on a street car? No.
Buy the B17 and do one of two things, boost it @9 psi, or save it as a collectors item and sell it in ten years when its the last one in existance.

I heard that You can drop B17a crank and rods into the B20 from the japanese microvan (Already Vtec) and you get 1.9L w/ good r/s . If that also involves a whole lot of drama w/ crank and rod bearings... and a bunch of gaskets and seals other than the ones that I have in my b17a gasket set, then this does not appeal to me.. .too much extra mula right now.. maybe some day...

I.E : I have heard The crank and rods placed inside a B20 (Jdm vtec block), will make an "ideal rod ratio and when mingled w/ ctr or Itr slugs= good compression for a street motor.

What "jdm vtec" b20 block? I dont think 81mm pistons will do so good in an 84mm block bore.

It made the statement of a b20 that was a vtec block from the factor

B17A1 crank in either B20B or Z results in 1.8 liters of displacement. You would use either custom rods or LS rods but not be at zero deck clearance. as far as bearings go I've heard of using B20 mains and B17Arod bearings, I'm not sure though, when you build a motro you have to buy bearings, so why would you consider it a hassle?

Hastle.. because its been a long buildup and I am mentaly , emotionally , and financially worn out...
I apreciate all the advice... I came to my sense.. that I can settle for b17a bored and honed block...

b17 crank in a b20 is a waste of money...and it's not a 1.9lt....if you want to up the displacement send you block to goden eagle for some 84mm sleeves or drop a gsr or ls crank in it...although you will need custom rods..

For a really cool hybrid, use a 1988 CRX HF, 1988 CRX DX, or 1989 CRX HF. All of these cars are SUPER light. Except for 1984-1987 carbed CRX's (which are a pain to do swaps on), there is nothing lighter to drop this motor into. This includes the 1G CRX SI (which is heavier). Get a mount kit, rewire your car to use the P61 B17A ECU, and build yourself one of the fastest Hondas on the street.
