Default Which VTEC solenoid to use? (pics)

I have a large VTEC solenoid that came with a '95 GSR head that I bought and then a smaller solenoid that came with a '96 GSR head that I bought. I'm going to be using the '96 GSR head with ITR cams/valvesprings with headwork done by Portflow. Using that information is there any benefit to using the larger solenoid??

The smaller solenoid - just a little bigger than a nickel:

The larger solenoid - just a little bigger than a quarter:

the larger solenoid looks to be from an older model car by looking at the clearish looking plug. i would go with the gray plugged solenoid.

The bigger one is from a non OBD engine, the smaller one is OBD-1.

Ah since I'm going to be using it in my '93 Integra I guess the non-OBD (larger one) one won't work. Never knew the VTEC solenoid was OBD dependent.

I took one off a B16a last night and there wasn't a place for the green plug, oil pressure switch. Just the Vtec solenoid.

Why was it not there?

they both will work on any b-seriies vtec head regardless of wat ecu u run. You just have to have the plugs that plug into the solenoid and just wire it like you would normally.

The Japanese one won't. You'll get A2 and D4 codes when running anyhing other than a JDm ECU. I was running a rechipped P28 and I got those codes. Ended up having to use a Vtec solenoid off of a USDM car for it to work.

umm.. im running a first gen jdm b16a vtec solenoid with a chipped P28 and works great. Mine from a first gen b16a, because I pulled it off from the motor myself. The vtec solenoid on the right is from an obd0 car because of the plug is yellowish (see through color). Either vtec solenoid will work, but you just need a clip and wire it correctly, as the wire colors differ, but if wired correctly will work the exact same.

Yup it's not like one VTEC solenoid is going to give you better power gains than the other (unless one is broken of course ). I'm running a D16z6 VTEC solenoid on my B16A, works fine.
