v8 240sx project beginning
I know this isn't a honda, but honda-tech is my home, and i've been into honda's for quite some time. I love my honda family, but now its time for some rwd fun! Here's some pix of my new project...
Well, i've finally got a motor, its actually an lq4 from an 04 denali. Its a 6.0 with 325hp and 370ft/lbs of torque. All of the sources i've seen so far say this motor weighs ~80lbs more than an ls1. So in theory, this will still weigh slightly less than the ka24. Its getting ls6 heads, cometic head gaskets, ls6 intake manifold and f-body accessories. I'm still undecided on the cam yet, although i'm looking for about 450 whp. Still need to get a tranny, gto oil pan and pickup, some kind of headers, and plenty of misc stuff. I ordered some motor mounts the other day, and I already have my r33 crossmember. I will fully document this swap in an effort to continue to make this swap gain popularity. Here are some pix:
This last pic i'm looking for an opinion on my black housing headlights. I know my bumper is sagging, but I'd like some input on the headlights. They are stock but have been retrofitted with rx330 hid projectors, and i just painted the chrome housing black. Not sure what i think about the black yet. Opinions welcome!

I hope its gonna be a good one to watch! It will probably be some slow going for a while, that whole problem of money...haha. I did just get my "diy" motor mounts today, but i've still go so much to buy it gives me a headache. Oh well one paycheck at a time, i'll get there!

Most definitely going to be a t56, i'm really looking forward to having a 240 with a 6 speed! And I actually paid 1900 for what you see sitting there. It only had 25,xxx miles on it AND i have the vin from the vehicle it came from (for tuning purposes when the time comes) Its so complete it even came with power steering hoses and ac lines (not that i'll be able to use them). The nice thing about an american motor is I can go into napa and get sensors/etc for it. Also i just drove about an hour and a half away to pick it up...can't beat that!

Sounds awesome.
Also, instead os the LS6 heads, you should check out the new L92 heads (new 6.2L Escalade engine). They should bolt up since you have a 6L with the 4" bore, they flow insanely well (320cfm intake IIRC), and best of all they are considerably cheaper than LS6 heads. Just something you might want to look into.
The only downside to using the L92 heads is that you need a different intake manifold, but GMPP makes one that bolts right up and has a 90mm TB included with it.

I am very aware of the l92 heads, however I was not aware that they were less expensive than the ls6 heads. Since my motor came with the 317 casting heads that a lot of forced induction guys want, i'm just going to sell my complete heads for ~350 and try to find some other heads to buy for somewhere in that same price range. You are right in the flow numbers, they are pretty incredible, they actually outflow aftermarket ls1/6/2 heads. I'll definitely try and swing the l92 heads if i can find a way.

They are a little over 1/2 cost of a LS6 head (though you might be able to get used LS6 heads for cheaper than new L92 heads).

I think it's about 90lbs heavier.

88 to be exact, but nothing that a little weight distribution wont take care of

Yeah, but how heavy was the ka24 it replaced? Like you said in your fist post, this engine coulnd end up being lighter than stock.

Re: (RynoDyno312)
Well i believe my engine will end up weighing about 50 lbs more than a ka24/tranny combo. I believe this is a bare ka, just engine and tranny, no accessories. Just don't quote me on any of the weight figures, as they are all pulled from different internet sources. I still have to add a tranny, which I believe is between 130 to 150 lbs. Of course, that weight is going to be mostly centrally located, so won't offset the weight distribution too much.
Basically it will weigh maybe a couple hundred pounds more than the ka24, but the majority of that weight will be tranny, which doesn't concern me, especially when i'll be making 450ish to the wheels AND have 6 forward gears.
Now just need some more money....

Sorry for going off topic but, I didn't know that ls1's were that light. That is probably another reason why I hear nothing but praises about that engine.
Either way, lots of us are car guys and all great car projects are welcomed here.
