Default Ultimate daily B16 Hybrid

HI,
I would like to make an engine, base would be the B16, which can be driven daily, so reliable, and powerful for the weekend.
I would like to use the maximum of JDM Honda stuff.

in my toughts, i would like to do as follow :
B16A2 engine
B18C5 polished cylinder head
B16B pistons
B16B cams
B18C5 manifold worked in 65mm
Aftermarket Rods (B16B pistons in B16A requires specifics rods)
Prelude 270 or 320 cc injectors
B16A2 tranny with EK9 or ITR LSD
ITR stuff (oil pump, water pump...)

i would like to stay the closest to B16A 1/74/1 R/S ratio.
Is there a crank better than the B16 one in that configuration ?

do not be too technical please as i am french and my english is limited

Thanks guys

And question :

Does it exist rods already made to input EK9 pistons in B16 ?
Or do i have to buy already made similar EK9 pistons to put on B16 rods ?

Is the head of the B18C5 the same as the EK9 (except of the cam, i do not remember which one)?

Why not just go with B16B? It would be more powerful and more reliable than the B16. Why do you want the 1.74R/S?

Seems you're going through an awful lot of trouble for whatever you expect to gain from this build.

you 're right, but it's not that simple to find a B16B, especially in France.
I want this ratio as it is a very good ratio, and do not want to lose it

is it, by the way, possible and useful to port and polish a B18C5 head ?

You are really grasping at straws. You need to learn the basic concepts of building a motor.

My point was to tell you to try to learn something first, then buy later. I don't want to give you a report on everything about a motor. You are too early on. If you don't want the advice, then don't take it.

The deal is that a 1.74 rod-to-stoke ratio is already overkill. The B16B is the same deck height as the B18 motors - that means the rods are as long as most Chevy V8 rods. My good friend is in the process of the same type of hybrid. Stock B16A rods/block with B16B pistons results in the pistons sticking out 0.5mm if I remember correctly - not good.

The B18C5 cyl head is basicly a B16A head, except slightly ported with much better cams. Get the B16B cams and some sandpaper or flapper wheels and you can make your head the same for much less.

BTW - my brother has a genuine B16B in his '96 Civic DX hatch. Its VERY fun to drive. The tranny makes the lowend feel like a B20, but when vtec engauges with the B16B ecu - Personally I'd go with a B18C1 and the B16B cams, but I'm guessing you might have laws restricting you to 1.6L

Have fun researching!

HiProfileThank you very much for your reply

I think it is not a question of height, but of thickness of the B16B rods, which are tinner than the B16A. So to fit the pistons, you have to put off 1mm of the B16A rods

That's what i tought, that's why i asked if we can still ported from it

We have so many restrictions in France, that if you follow all of them, it won't worth living. So if i have at least the pleasure to do what i want with my car ...

The B18C1 is very rare in France. We have a lot a B16 and some rare B18C5. that's why i want to keep B16 base
